Non-Lady Vol Game discussion

Yes or No. Uconn will not win another championship in the next 5 yrs.

Great discussion for the Boneyard.

Edit: Sh*t I forgot we made a Non-Lady Vol discussion thread! *FacePalm*

To answer your question - UCONN will more than likely win another title within the next 5 years as long as Geno is coaching, he will get the best talent!

Trust me im hoping for a lot of NO's and no i dont think he will. The talent hes bringing in isnt Allstar level of the past.

"The talent hes bringing in isnt Allstar level of the past." ???????

2018 "commits" - Hoopgurlz #1 and #5
2019 Hoopgurlz "considering" #1 and #2

Both commits are MCD AAs

Christyln Williams will be playing behind Dangerfield,ONO is a project that hasnt been all that great. None of those players are Maya Moore, Sterwart, Taurasi type players. After Nurse,Gabby, and eventually Stevens and KLS the experience level will drastically drop. Of course the coach will get them to a competitive level but not sure that will be enough.

Well one thing is for sure..... it is not easy to win the whole thing..... never is automatic.... it is a grind every year..... i think Alabama football or Penn State volleyball are testaments to this..... Will UC win next few years? who knows

I agree that none of those players are Stewart, Moore or Taurasi type players. Don t agree with you about Ono. She was the best big the USA had when she played in the u17 tournament. This is also her first semester playing after a knee injury in January 2017. Everyone here would have been elated if she had decided to play for the Lady Vols.

One I agree with you about ONO and everyone being elated if she came to UT. However 1. I am very happy to get Collins she is the truth while ONO was the best big USA had she was severely out played by the post from Australia who was more physical. So I think she will need some time to adjust to the physicality of the game (much like Russell).

Who is Ono ? I don’t see her on Uconns roster?

You realize they've won 6 of the last 9 championships and the overwhelming favorite yet again to win this season right?

Stewie years = overwhelming yes
Now ... not overwhelming favorite. Wining by a basket at Texas isn't overwhelming.

They didnt look overwhelming against TX the other night did they? And i believe they basically have the same team that lost to MissSt last yr. Do you think they can stop someone with a great center like Mccown or Mercedes?

I agree, after this year and next you will see a big drop off for UCONN. Andra Espinoza-Hunter has already left and I would not be surprised if more left. Will have to see what they do with the transfer rule. They may make it where any player can leave any school and play the next year without setting out a year. This could really help schools like UCONN.

If you are talking about Ododa from Ga. I saw her this weekend in Nashville. The Music City Classic had several college players and Ododa is 6’4” but other than height.... I did not see much else?? I don’t think she sees the floor for a year or two! JMO

That's exactly who I was referring too and I also don't think she plays untill year two as well. Only way she see time next season is due to injury imo

or it could hurt them. Walker was arguably the #1 recruit in the country and isn't playing, she isn't letting it show but I know a part of her is thinking had she chose ND she may be playing right now.

Also looking at our freshman and Chennedy Carter and the time they are getting as freshman is frustrating to girls who carry themselves as the best to play their position coming out (Walker , Boothe, Patterson all top 5 players who haven't played much this season)

Just my opinion

Either Conn's backups is not competitive enough to take some legitimate time from the starters or Geno has some trust issues with them. He did mention someone on the bench needs to step up. We shall see against a very talented Louisville.

Auriemma is a ridiculous 11 and 0 in NC games. Yes, he Will win another within the next 5 years and likely more than 1. They lose Nurse and Gabby next season and they are both key to this team. But they have lost key players in the past and then those freshman who didn't get to play freshman year but learned his system make themselves felt.

CT does not always get the best players but he is, by far, the best head coach at developing all players to a higher level than they were as freshman

And he does it with unrelenting pressure for everyone to get better. Those who can't take that pressure transfer. Many talented players have bailed out over the years

mlindsay: i agree with you 100% on Walker, Also Drama over at the Boneyard about this issue.

Here's the frustrating thing, at least I think this is mainly why fans/posters are frustrated.

Look around the rest of the country at some of the other freshmen who are being asked to shoulder large roles. Chennedy Carter for aTm. Westbrook/Davis/Hayes for Tennessee. Dana Evans for L'ville. Onyenwere for UCLA. Cooks for Michigan State. Williams and Dodson for Stanford.

All these kids are pretty much playing every single game (unless they are sick or injured). Most are averaging double figures in scoring. Most are playing significant minutes, even against good/great teams. So why can these kids all earn PT while Coombs and Walker cannot? Why can these kids figure out how to play against really good players while Coombs and Walker cannot?

Part of it is that these other teams don't have 6 potential all americans ahead of them on the depth chart. But I find it hard to believe that Carater, Westbrook, Davis, Hayes, Evans, Onyenwere, Cooks, Williams and Dodson are all so much better than Walker and Coombs that they are able to contribute while in big games, our freshmen are not. Is the UCONN practice and training regime so advanced that freshmen simply cannot grasp it at UCONN, but it's so much easier at other schools that really good freshmen not only start, but thrive all season long?

I am more asking that question rhetorically since I do believe that the UCONN way is different. Probably every other school out there, besides UCONN, allows freshmen to come in and continue to do what they did well in high school, while slowly trying to curb bad habits they picked up along the way. At UCONN, that's not the way it's done. Apparently you don't get to play until most bad habits are squelched and kids can excel when playing against the all americans ahead of them on the depth chart.

I can't argue with the results. Geno has consistently taken top 20 kids and turned them into WNBA players. He's taken top 10 kids and turned them into Olympians. I do get why fans are frustrated, especially if they are comparing our freshmen to other top freshmen in the nation, and that's part of the purpose of message boards - to let fans of all opinions share them, within reason. But as several have said, the proof is in the pudding. 11 NC's, many professional players, and the most Olympians of any program in the history of Women's Basketball... Oh, and almost every single player who has graduated from UCONN says unequivocally that no matter how hard the first year was, by the end, they get and appreciate why Geno coached them the way he did. He makes them into the best players they possible can be...
