Non-Lady Vol Game discussion

Yes, so next year she will be going out and the freshman prince will be coming in. She is athletic and has made multiple USA teams. She dunks with ease. So Baylor may get a taste of how people felt with Brittney Griner when they had them. Collier will also make a difference and their high low game will be scary and she has extended her range. You surround them with some people who can shoot or penetrate and dish and people are going to have a problem with Texas.

Here is a highlight reel but you can see she is a 6’7” who actually leaves the floor.

Sedona Prince Highlights - YouTube

Pretty impressive. Hope Texas is good enough to drop UConn even further downnon the totem pole.

Both teams looked really good. But with all the talk of depth, neither bench produced much last night. Once again, Boothe showed the country why she should be in consideration for national POY.

Baylor was forced to move two bench players into the starting lineup due to injuries to Wallace and Chou. Those two plus Richards off the bench combined for 36 points. I'd say that's the very definition of depth when you can lose two starters and barely miss a beat.

Texas has no inside size outside of White and Holmes, and it showed last night. They we're missing the twin who was starting before her injury. She was a good post defender and rebounder with size. They had no backups with enough size to play with Baylor's inside game.

I hate that a technical was called in a 1/2 point game. If that coach isn’t throwing a chair in the court if I’m a ref I walk to the other end as quickly as possible. Mulkey is as demonstrative as any other coach in the country and rarely gets called on it. LOL she was pointing towards and getting into it with Tina Thompson. I am sure Mulkey is smart enough to know she wants no parts of that. If Mulkey thinks she is fiery I know she watched Thompson play lol...

This is what Aston said in the post game interview. "I had a poorly, poorly timed technical that I take full responsibility for. I am disappointed in myself. Definitely my fault on that one."

I get that and I would expect any coach to say that when it put their team in a bad position. Again, it looked as if Lisa Mattingly could have avoided giving her the tech and I hate that a two point game went to 6 if it wasn’t warranted. Just because she took responsibility for it doesn’t mean she was going to say she didn’t deserve it.

Not discrediting Baylor because they played a good game. However if there was a technical given out for being demonstrative then one would think Mulker would get one per game! I also would like to see what Mulkey said to Tina Thompson that Mulkey was pointing towards her LOL... Actually I would have liked Tina to have walked over to Mulkey to ask her if there was something wrong LOL. Like I said before Mulkey is feisty but not stupid she would know to backdown. If Thompson didn’t back down to Cooper or Swoopes I don’t think she would back down to Mulkey. 😂

Kalani is a junior, so they have one more year of her. They should be the heavy favorite to win. UConn will really miss their two graduating seniors. How is Prince? Is she an athletic, mobile 6'7, or just tall?

UCONN still has 3 starters back plus Stevens who is basically a 4th starter. Add in Walker (2017 #1) and Williams (2018 #1) and I don't see them dropping off.

I honestly think Baylor and Texas might have too much talent on their roster next year. Both teams have talent to go 10-11 deep, but will likely shorten the roster to 8 players in big games. With so many high profile recruits, I could see playing time causing rifts in team chemistry. More talent doesn't mean more success. A lot of time it means more egos to manage and more players on the bench unhappy.

Just looking at Texas's roster next year, they'll have 5 HS AAs battling for 2 spots along with several PGs battling for 1 (maybe 2) spots.

Notre Dame will have its best shot to win a title next year too with a lineup of Turner, Shepard, Young, Ogunbowale and Mabrey. Almost everyone is back for the Irish and they'll have size inside to compete with other bigs.

Oregon will also be very good with all of their contributors returning, plus they add in Boley.

Louisville also should be quite good once again. Those would be my top 6 (not necessarily in that order) going into next season.

Interesting to see if every thing works out with Baylor. If Kim keeps everyone happy they will be a force. I honestly think 5 players never works. Too many players to keep happy and they're all 5 stars.

UCONN will be UCONN but I think parity is near. Especially with what ND & Baylor have returning. I think they will be challenged next year especially without Williams and Nurse (who does more then some think).

ND will be fantastic once again. But will Turner be back to pre injury form? And will she expand her game? I'm sure Muffett will have her ready.

How good will Louisville be next year without MHA? She's a key player for them and I honestly don't see her replacement on that bench. Durr is fantastic though so maybe she can put them on her back.

Oregon will be solid. Hopefully they learn how to play consistent defense because our scoring teams won't work next year.

My sleeper teams are: Oregon State, Stanford, SC and Texas A&M.

You forgot UConn's Olivia Nelson Ododa (sp?) ranked 5 or 8 and 1 before Jr. knee injury and they are in the running for Aussie Ezi Magbego, like ONO 6'4", who just was placed on Aussie Nat'l Team; ONO dunking on link below:

Omg, if Stevens comes back, go ahead and sign UCONN up for their 29th championship! Ezi is GOOD!

If she comes some more folk will transfer out, she is better than both Camara (who transferred from Kentucky who may never play in a UConn uniform) and ONO (who she dominated in the Olympic games) and Geno rarely goes more than 7 or 8 deep so you figure his starting 5 would be;

Dangerfield, Katie Lou, Collier, Stevens, Ezi (I don't see walker starting next season if he adds Ezi)

and then the bench will probably be Williams, Walker, and ONO (Camara would have a leg up though because she knows the system).

I feel sorry for some of the players who chose Uconn who may never play there but hey it's a decision they made

I think a lot of teams who don't have the strong coaching will also have trouble. Plus some losses are bigger than others.

OR lose Bando Top shooter in the country and who stretches the floor for Hebard and the guards to operate, Boley is not as good.

ND Westbeld is their glue and she is a great passer. Turner relied on athleticism and a ACL could have taken that away and she is not a passer so that pulls Shepard away from the basket, plus Nelson was a great big sub who was also a good passer and she will be gone, Vaughn not a passer.

Baylor Guard played out of her skin but is inconsistent. We will see how she plays with games on the line.

The response re bench is a good one as if you look at OR they have this long bench and he never plays them, probably to pad stats but there will come a time when they will leave.

One thing we know for sure - regardless of the score, Geno will only play players who execute and play in his system and follow his every command. This amounts to only about 7 players, 8 max ever. Walker will be a sophomore next year and one year experience will put her in front of incoming Williams (I also believe that either Gordon or Coombs will be ahead of Williams as well for playing time). Camara/Irwin (one of these) will be his post relief next year, not ONO.

Returning bench players: Walker (g), Camara (f), Coombs (g), Gordon (g), Bent (g), and Irwin (f), This puts Williams and ONO riding the bench all year next year - max 15 minutes when they play Tulsa. They better go ahead and find a good cushion cover for their chair.

Ezi will be a question mark for the team. Yes she's amazing in Austrailia but that's international play - more open. Can the girl play in a 'system' basketball? When you sign up for Uconn there is no choice but to follow suit to perfection. If not, your sent to the gift shop to pick up your cheerleading outfit and pom pom.

I don't think this is quite accurate re Oregon. The Oregon bench players over the season have averaged (rounded off) 16, 14, 10, 9, 8, 6, and 6 minutes, and a lot of took place during the course of games, not just in the final minutes. They of course did play less against teams like UCLA or Stanford, but Graves seemed determined to give everyone as much playing time as he could throughout the year. And there is always a lot of enthusiasm on the part of the bench players throughout games. I do think that there is a good chance that one (Campisano) will transfer. The other player averaging 6 minutes (Giomi) is something of a project and prone to injury as well. I think she'll stay. I also think that, as important as Bando is to this team, Boley will ultimately prove the better player.

UCONN continues to amaze with recruiting and results. Once again, they will be the team to beat next year, however Baylor and Notre Dame won’t be slouches either. Meanwhile, I think the sec will take a back seat to other top teams

Texas has announced that NPOY candidate Rellah Boothe will not be playing in the NCAA tournament. Perhaps she is finally getting treatment for her Krispy Kreme addiction.

Wow UCONN fans are really still running with that joke. She is a confident kid, give it a break.

Her second suspension this season for "personal reasons."
That doesn't bode well for Boothe at Texas.

Academics, conditioning or behavior? Or all 3?

NCAA opening round against St Francis. UConn 94-31.
At the half!

WTF? Where is the mercy rule? How is that team even in the tournament?

The American Conference had two teams in the Tournament, 1 UCon and 6 South Florida.

South Florida just lost to 11 seed Buffalo. Buffalo scored 102 points on South Florida, the second best team in the American Conference.

Florida Gulf Coast had handled Missouri fairly well so far, but with a couple minutes left in the 3rd Mizz is now within 5.

After not being able to put my finger on who she reminds me of, I realized earlier after Sophie Cunningham threw yet another nasty elbow that the person is Tonya Harding. Seriously.
