The thing UT has that UCONN doesn’t is big bodies to throw at Shepard... she seemed to wear down as the game went on. That and her teammates stopped looking for her downlow. Russell is 200+ pounds, Stevens is only around 175/180 to battle Shepard’s 200 pound frame. UT can also put Green (185-190)... I’d run my bigs on Pats post highway and tire her legs out. She missed a few easy shots as she was huffing air. She is a good player and I expect her to know the system better by the time we play in January.

Shepherd got shut down by Gabby Williams last year. Russell should be able to have her way with her.

ND just lost their 3rd player this year to an ACL injury a few days ago. I didn't think they'd do this well today. Lousy shot selection this half.

That wide open 3 Marina missed in the last two minutes was a backbreaker for ND. They needed that shot.

ND star...gosh her name escapes me, there go to player last two years...(Turner?) why isn't she dressed out and how long is she out? UCONN not looking like UCONN no swagger. Geno might have to do some coaching up with this squad.

ACL injury end of last season, has decided not to rush back and will be out the whole season.

As for UCONN Gabby Williams didn’t play the whole 2nd half and Katie Lou isn’t 100%.

ESPN said that Gabby was dealing with debilitating migraines and could not play. Samuelson was coming back from a long layoff after a foot sprain and then injured her ankle during the game yesterday. When a team is down two first team all-Americans, the team can either whine and make excuses or suck it up and do the best they can with whoever is left. Notre Dame is also dealing with injuries this year. It's part of the game. I can only imagine how good Notre Dame would be at full strength. Ditto for UConn.

I think ESPN is trying to cover/butter up the fact that Gabby was benched the second half due to performance.

She wasn't bringing it and she was sat down. Even Rebecca Lobo made mention that she isn't performing to the standards that are required of her and that she is being made an example of for future game purposes.

No--the migraines are real and have been an issue on and off throughout the season. Auriemma talked about this during the postgame presser. Williams wanted to try again after halftime, but A. said, in effect, that one glance at her told him she was done for the day. Lobo apparently didn't know this when she made her comments during the game.

Not denying that the migraines are in fact an issue my sister dealt with them and played for years of college basketball as well. I also understand Geno's response (or politically correct way of saying it) but trust me that isn't the reason she sat.

She wasn't bringing it the way he felt she should so he benched her to send a message and Lobo having played for him verified that.

Just like his (or the committee's) reasoning for keeping Candace Parker off the Olympic team, you give what you think the people will accept. I'm not buying the migraines as the reason. It could've been part of it but it isn't truly why.

If they were down at the half in the title game and she came to him expressing that she was ready he would've played her migraines or not.

All I know for sure? It was an exciting game. I watched a lot of really good basketball by both teams. Nothing better for me than watching good WCBB

Neither team seems to have a rim defender ( Gabby Williams didn’t play second half however). I am actually glad our guards/wings are excited to get blocks and play defense.

One more observation Shepard may be a load for Russell but the LV can expose their 4 player (Nelson or Westbeld) by using their quickness (Nared/Davis/ or even Green). Westbeld will and can shoot the outside shot but so can our forwards. Green is gaining confidence and starting to take people off the dribble.

I watch the game and ND had there chance to win the game rebounding was about even 41-39 UConn. Shepard played 36 mins and had to battle with 6-6 Stevens Williams and Collier, and empty her tank nothing left. Kristina Nelson 6-4 played pretty well and gave them good mins. But to keep Shepard fresh so she can be more effective, ND needs Danielle Patterson 6-3 to step up. I`m not sure what`s going on but she get`s no mins and only played 1 min 1.

In his post game he said the migraines affect her play. She has missed practices this year because of the migraines. So it's not like he doesn't know that. Otherwise he would just let her play through them in practice. Everyone in WCBB knows that if you don't do it in practice the UConn staff isn't going to allow it in the game. He wasn't going to put her out there if she couldn't play at the level they needed her to. You don't have to believe it was due to the migraines and how they affect her but that has been a known and ongoing issue. Similar too the neck spasm issues that Collier deals with time to time. For whatever reason people seem to think UConn players are inhuman or bullet proof. They deal with crap too.

Every situation is different. I'll give you that. Had it been a title game he may have let her play considering it would be the last game of her career. I won't pretend to be a mind reader. Even if UConn had lost that game it wouldn't have hurt them, just like it's not gonna hurt Notre Dame. If anything both teams should feel encouraged.

She chose the wrong university if she wanted to play right away but that's neither here nor there and imo with Turner being out and having another year along with Sheppard and Vaughn being ahead of her this year the likelihood of her playing is her junior year.

Not doubting that the migraines contributed to her poor performance what I also said was for him to bench her it was due to her performance (first) and then he may have realized at half-time the migraines contributed to it

But initially when she was sat down it was not due to the migraines that's what I stated and stand behind it.

I don't think Uconn is unbeatable or inhuman as the son of a former professional athlete I was raised that on any given day anyone can be beat. Uconn gets the praise they deserve for performing so well but placing them on a pedestal will never be anything I do.

I wish Gabby the best and although I have a disdain for y'all program she is one of the current and past Huskies that I like and want to see do well (alongside Kiah Stokes, Swin Cash, Tiffany Hayes, and Asjah Jones).

I watched Patterson play in Nashville AAU tournament. Muffin was there watching her and I noticed she REALLY wasn’t watching!!!! Always on her cell phone or not paying attention at all!!!!!!!
She was just there for show because they couldn’t talk to each other anyway!!! Just showing her interest in a recruit!!! I was disappointed but I guess it is part of the recruiting games coaches play ??? 😈

Vaughn is one of the trio out with an ACL injury. The minutes are there for Patterson to take.

In Muffet’s offense she “stars” one Post/Forward at a time and the rest that play the 4/5 are supporting cast

The 5 she is “starring” right now is Sheppard (due to Turner being out, if Turner was available I don’t think she would’ve applied for the hardship waiver for Sheppard to play)

With that being said Westbald (i think that’s her name) and Nelson are ahead of her and the chances of her playing some 3 isn’t there with Jackie Young and Mabrey splitting some time there!

The chances of her playing in Muffet’s 7 player rotation is slim (Ogumbowale, Young, Mabrey, Westbald, Sheppard, Nelson, Lili Thompson) but we shall see

Yup a lot of these coaches get players just so they wont go to the competition with no intent on really playing them or knowing they don’t fit into their system

Here is espn's top womens plays of the week...check out number 9 the quickness of Dangerfield - 23 seconds into the clip

SportsCenter: #espnWtop10 - ESPN Video

If she was on Tenn....imagine how easy it would be for the rest of the team to get open shots

She ain't any faster then Anastasia Hayes, and Anastasia is way ahead of her in her freshman year.

Exactly and if I am not Mistaking Annie outperformed her when the two of them played head to head. Dangerfield is good but I like what we have and the potential to have 3 more just like or even better. (The A-Team)

There is no doubt that Hayes has the potential to be the quality PG that UT has been missing. But IMO it's too early to be making these type of comparisons. She has put up some good numbers (except for the very poor A/TO) but the numbers have been against very weak competition.

It will be interesting to see how well she performs against decent competition.

What do you consider decent competition? She scored 16 points in the overtime win over then-No. 20 Marquette.

She will always see limited time as a Point Guard. Same class as Westbrook. She is going to be a great 2 and gives us, along with next years ladies solid guard options. I love her game!
