Non-Lady Vol Game discussion

She will always see limited time as a Point Guard. Same class as Westbrook. She is going to be a great 2 and gives us, along with next years ladies solid guard options. I love her game!

Although not starting.... there is a process that’s going on.... they have played separately but have played together!!!!! Holly has to have one of them playing at all times.... at least till next year ! Plus both have to take a break at sometime! The old positions of one and two and three is just that OLD....

Holly is limited this year but future players (Jasmine, Zarelle,? Next year and sister Hayes in 2019) will give us more options! More and more teams are playing with four or five guards playing at same time.
Besides with our guards ( Evina, Jasmine, Zarelle, are all 6’ or over). Out of eight recruits for 2017 & 18.... only Annie is under 6’! Just saying

Marquette is currently ranked #52 (Massey). Consider that at #20 early on they may have been grossly over rated.

UT has played a relatively weak schedule so far (I think that is probably a good thing given the team make up). My point was why not wait and see how Hayes performs against teams like Texas and USC.

Not denying that the migraines are in fact an issue my sister dealt with them and played for years of college basketball as well. I also understand Geno's response (or politically correct way of saying it) but trust me that isn't the reason she sat.

She wasn't bringing it the way he felt she should so he benched her to send a message and Lobo having played for him verified that.

Just like his (or the committee's) reasoning for keeping Candace Parker off the Olympic team, you give what you think the people will accept. I'm not buying the migraines as the reason. It could've been part of it but it isn't truly why.

If they were down at the half in the title game and she came to him expressing that she was ready he would've played her migraines or not.

Why on this planet would anyone trust you, what do you know about UCONN player's health issues? Trust you over an issue that has been around since the season began but somehow you fail to accept because it is from Geno. Because beat they still beat a seemingly top 50 team according to Massey which has ALSO been way off on the point spread on all the games! However, that’s still a top 50 team which puts them in the tourney essentially. While they schedule has been “weak”... this Texas game shouldn’t define this team it will be a barometer at where we are. Even if we win and they play stellar this cant be where we stop. They will have to keep finding ways to improve

People wanted to downplay us beating OK State that played MSU tough and BEAT #7 in the country! Maybe Ok State wasn’t as easy a cupcake to swallow as some may have thought? This will end up helping our strength of schedule in the end... Although we demolished them Centra Ark is supposed to be tourney bound as well they have a 4-2 record so far. Marquette will have to go thru Villanova and DePaul but if they do that will also help our RPI as Nova is in the top 25 again! Glad for ex lady vol jannah Tucker

#20 Kentucky fell to FGCU 70-64. FGCU led pretty much the whole game and were up by double digits in the 3rd and early 4th quarters.

A game I found quite interesting (although it was several weeks ago) was the game between Ole Miss and Troy State in Oxford. Ole Miss won by a score of 96 to 93. Go figure!

It wasn’t Geno bashing as I stated in the thread I don’t believe that was the original reason she was benched! She was benched before Half time because she was being out rebound and hustled by Sheppard and Nelson (which normally doesn’t happen)

Geno (or the coaching staff) assessed her at halftime and determined her play was due to the migraines that doesn’t excuse as I’ve stated before and Rebecca Lobo also stated she was benched due to poor performance and then it was discovered it was the migraine issue!

No need to bash Geno just like there is no need for you to be here if you aren’t a Lady Vol fan!

I stand behind what I’ve said and what I believe because it has been done before in games where his stars have underperformed he’s sat them to send a message only this time the player being sat had a reason outside of poor performance!

Texas will be tough. Senior leadership and very talented. Apparently Texas and UCLA scrimmaged in the preseason and word has it they pretty much dominated the Bruins.

I am sure it will be! I am interested to see how the Lady Vols handle themselves. If they are up ... will they continue and be aggressive? If they are down will they show fight? A December 10th game won’t define you whether you win or lose but it can establish a sense of self! Fortunately with this team they just go, go, go... I hope Jaime is on fire because none of their 4s can handle her. Hosey maybe the closest one defensively... McCartey, Atkins, and Higgs can be EXPLOSIVE but LV have length on the permiter. Brooke McCarty is a pretty good shooter but Annie is fast so that may be a good match up from a size and speed standpoint. I think Annie can attack Brooke’s foot speed but McCarty will back door an overly aggressive defense to death. I’m excited for the game.

Curious... Did Texas not recruit Zarielle Green? She is a player similar to Atkins in size and build and would have been a solid replacement once she graduated.

It seems to me that the real disagreement here is not about Williams being benched due to "poor performance." In my view, that was clearly the case.

Rather, the disagreement stems from equating this benching with, say, the benching of Stewart and Tuck a few years ago. In that case, the benching was presumably the result of poor attitude/lack of commitment/etc. on the part of the starters. And those are things that are completely under the control of the player themselves. In the Williams case, the primary (or at least an important) reason was something beyond her control: a migraine. To me, that's an important distinction that makes this "benching" a little different than many others in the past.

I believe Green did not have high interest in Texas or Baylor but she was recruited by both and gave them a listen at least.

Side Note: Atkins went to the same HS as Green (and Catchings).

McCowan and Vivians had monster games and Miss State pretty much stomped all over Oregon. The final score was an 11 point margin, but Miss State was up 20 midway through the 3rd quarter and Oregon never got closer than 10 the rest of the way.

Vivians has been a volume shooter for 3 years, but she has gotten so much more efficient. McCowan is a monster. She had 35 pts, 19 rebs, 5 blocks against a top 10 team with size.

Nared/Russell vs. Vivians/McCowan will be a great matchup.

It’s interestingMcCowan had 15/18 field goals for 35 points HOWEVER she also allowed 11/12 by a 6’3”/ 6’4” sophomore forward for 25 points the difference was Vivians for 30 where Ionescu usually scores more but didn’t have the best offensive night. So I agree Russell should have her way because of her size and I can’t believe it better mobility lol... the same defense that worked on TX may work on MSU just because you have an offensive perimeter player, a heady point guard, and their post was effective before hand. Sending two players back would benefit TN. For some reason I am thinking Mizzou because of their shooting prowess and they have athletic forwards that can shoot the ball may have more difficult match up. Sophie has been doing a lot of the ball handling so wearing her down with multiple defenders may be the answer to that I dunno...last year she punked some of our players I don’t see that happening with Westbrook because I think she is fiestier than Sophie was as a freshman lol
