North Iowa Tea Party billboard

I see your point. Comparing Obama to a man who killed millions while trying to exterminate a whole group of people is completely valid.

I'm really not a fan of either party comparing the other to Hitler and the Nazis.

Billboards like this only give legitimacy to people like LG who think the Tea Partiers are whackos.

I can't stand the clown, but even I can admit that this is about as far off base as you can get.

I see your point. That is quite an insult to Adolf. :)

On a serious note... I don't agree with the comparisons either. Some things are just off limits. However, as the poster board states - the comparison is in how these leaders may manipulate others into supporting their agenda... not a comparison of their agendas per se.

LG and people like him think that anyone who does not get chills up their leg when they see Barry are whackos and racist.

Yes, I understand that. But any person who looks at that billboard is going to automatically assume other comparisons and not that, even reading what they say.

True? Sure. Still a comparison I wouldn't nor I think should be made.

All 3 are socialist and all 3 are very radical.

and that's not the point of the billboard. The people looking at it would have a hard time identifying all 3 pictures and everyone knows the first thought when seeing a pic of Hitler. It's idiotic

Lg and others are quick to lump the fringe with the majority in cases like this, in part because of their political leanings but also due, in part, to things like this.

I would also add that both you and LG have the lumping fringe and majority deal in common. Why criticize someone of something you are so often guilty of yourself, both of you seem to do it often and it makes you both look rather naive IMO.

Are there similarities aside from that? I'm not saying there are when it comes to WW2 and the mass murdering of Jews. But are there other comparisons are far as ideas?

There are few things I find more tiresome than The Hitler Comparison. I know a guy who would proclaim absolutely anyone of being Hitler or anything as fascist based on no other requirement than if he disapproved. It's interesting since in most ways he's a good guy.

Personally I think Hitler/Nazis/Swastikas have just become a sort of negative totem that even the "Jay Walking" crowd can identify as "bad". Selling to the lowest common denominator and all that. Often it's just lazy pseudo-intellectualism. Yes, if you've actually got a historically accurate/relevant parallel then that may be legit...I just don't see it used that way very much. I don't think Obama is anywhere close to Bush in such comparisons being made against him. Not yet anyway.

I believe that the far left owns the Dem party and have for some time now. Now if you can't see or understand that, that is your problem and maybe you are the naive one.

The far left may indeed be running the show and setting the agenda but most democrats (those who hold office and ordinary citizens) are not as far left as you so often paint them.

The reason I am jumping in here is that when Bush was in office all we heard was that the far right had hijacked the country, you may believe that this turnabout is fair play, after all they did it to us right? I happen to believe that both political parties are pathetic at this point in time. Arguing over which is worse is like trying to decide if you're going to take a butter-face or a fat chick to prom, if those are my choices I'm going to the prom solo.

First of all I am not a Republican, I am a conservative. The Republican party has been worthless. I hope they are coming around.

And democrats are very far left, maybe not all the dems who are just ordinary people, but just about every dem in power is very far left. They have past all of Barry's extreme agenda.

And in just about every case they passed it only after they had watered it down enough for their constituents liking. In short they are trying to placate the people that vote them in, both sides of the political spectrum and everything in between are guilty of this. If you vote against your party you rattle the people at home, not to mention make enemies on your side of the isle who will remember and act accordingly come next election cycle and put their support behind the challenger.

We must blame ourselves for allowing a new aristocracy being created. Career politicians are killing this country and we allow them to set the rules on how the game is to be played and then trust them to make decisions for us. We are playing ourselves.

talk about preying on people's fears...

Bingo.

Not that the folks who would bite on this billboard's message would understand that's what's happening, or anything.

To be honest, at this point I welcome things like this. I think it starkly demonstrates where the tea party is really coming from, the shallowness of their thinking, the base nature of their philosophy.

If the American people end up going for this kind of message, then we deserve what we get.

I agree with most of this. The only thing I would say is that while most politicians are this way, it's not all. There are a very few good ones.
