North Korea may fire a missile toward Hawaii - Welcome to Charter.net

So it looks like they will fire another missile. This one is set to fly over Japan and in the direction of Hawaii, though it does not have the range to hit the main islands.

Have they fired any other missiles over Japan in earlier tests? If not does this not up the ante, so to speak?

The fact that they are firing this missile in the direction of Japan, and fairly close I might add, would present a perfect opportunity to test our missile defense capabilities wouldn't it?

True, but we've already tested the SM-3 against more capable missiles and it's done well.

This would be a waste of $10mil just to prove we can piss further than them.

money well spent IMO and a better use of $$ than anything we're currently doing. Pretty sure $10mil could be printed in just a few minutes

It would only be well spent if the DPRK got the message. There is, unfortunately, no getting across that point to them.

Anybody else think it is time to call the North Korean's bluff? All of these over-the-top threats, missile, and nuclear development...I say if they go through with this missile launch we launch strikes on all their strategic nuclear and missile facilities. Let them know this is unacceptable. I would take the bet that when push comes to shove, all they do is continue threats and don't do a thing about it.

What do you suggest?

What do you mean? Launch against their missile and nuclear facilities is what I suggested.

In reality, maybe that isn't feasible with how China and Russia don't really seem to care, and would condemn such attacks.

But some sort of show of force needs to happen to drive the point home to the N. Koreans that this is a fight they don't want. In a more realistic scenario, I don't see why we can't just blow their missile out of the sky.

This humor commentary seemed appropriate here:

U.S. to Respond to North Korea with ?Strongest Possible Adjectives' - Borowitz Report

In remarks to reporters at the White House, Mr. Obama said that North Korea should fear the "full force and might of the United States' arsenal of adjectives" and called the missile test "reckless, reprehensible, objectionable, senseless, egregious and condemnable."

Later in the day, Defense Secretary Robert Gates called the North Korean nuclear test "supercilious and jejune," leading some in diplomatic circles to worry that the U.S. might be running out of appropriate adjectives with which to craft its response.

Instead of going to Iraq for oil and rebuilding contracts. Cheney and Bush should have been looking at the real threats to us like Norh Korea.

I can see rebuilding contracts but the oil claim is a little shaky.

Don't leave out Iran, who because of our presence in Iraq and Afghan. we now have forward bases on their doorstep.
