North Korea set to launch another missile

Does anyone have any info on where this particular NK cargo ship is right now? I know we wanted to wait until it was away from the Chinese coast before we would think about boarding, supposedly to keep from embarrassing the Chinese.

From what I understand it is away from Chinese waters now and yet we haven't boarded it. This got me to wondering why we haven't checked this ship out yet. There are two very plausible reasons as I see it. 1 Obama doesn't want to provoke any action from NK (very unlikely given we suspect they are in violation of UN sanctions and they pose little threat to us right now). 2 There may be some equipment or weapons on board that will be traced back to the China and will certainly embarrass them and ramp up tensions between us (this is the most likely scenario I could think of).

It is time for Obama to make a move here, North Korea is being very provocative at this moment and the world is watching. Letting any nation get away with these kind of threats and actions could set a very bad precedent at this point. JMO!

we have to ask NK's permission before boarding (UN rule). They say boarding will be an act of war so we just trail behind and watch

I thought I read somewhere that the ship was headed to Burma, but I'm not sure about that. There isn't a lot of info coming out about this thing.

If that's true, Burma will have the right to search it. Perhaps they will play ball with the US and do so. If so, the US gets what it wants without the baggage.

That's if it is at sea. If it's at port, the host country has a right to search it.

North Korea may fire a missile toward Hawaii - Welcome to Charter.net

So it looks like they will fire another missile. This one is set to fly over Japan and in the direction of Hawaii, though it does not have the range to hit the main islands.

Have they fired any other missiles over Japan in earlier tests? If not does this not up the ante, so to speak?

The fact that they are firing this missile in the direction of Japan, and fairly close I might add, would present a perfect opportunity to test our missile defense capabilities wouldn't it?

Giving credit and creedence to the post before this one.The possibility of Them testing our missile defense capabilities is just as probable a scenario. There are a lot of interested parties in that area of the world as to those capabilities.Through limited personal experiences I am one who believes that the military in general and as a whole is at least one generation beyond anything commonly know.

Hadn't thought about this. Possibly another country using NK as a proxy to test our capabilities. China possibly?

I saw them for the sixth time last Monday here in Orlando. They are in Memphis on August 14 -- catch them if you can!
I thought about going to see them in the mid 90's (I think) when they started touring but never did... are they good in concert? do they use some of the old studio guys from their albums or do they use new guys?

Some of the people that have played on recent albums, like Everything Must Go, or Becker's recent solo album, are part of the tour. But guys like Carlton or whoever from the 70's haven't been in the mix for a long time. Obviously, nothwithstanding that, the people they have with them now are outstanding musicians. By all means, go if you can.

"My Old School" is a staple in their encores, btw.

They do play the title track Aja on this tour, along usually with Peg. Also some Bhodisatva, Kid Charlemagne, Bad Sneakers, Black Friday, Hey 19.

You need to go.

Anybody else think it is time to call the North Korean's bluff? All of these over-the-top threats, missile, and nuclear development...I say if they go through with this missile launch we launch strikes on all their strategic nuclear and missile facilities. Let them know this is unacceptable. I would take the bet that when push comes to shove, all they do is continue threats and don't do a thing about it.

Calling their bluff is exactly what they want us to do. They are powerless. Let them remain powerless.

I think we do. With the date announced and the basic trajectory, if we fail to neutralize it we really do suck.

I came across something this afternoon that suggested that the current generation of North Korean ballistic missiles are especially vulnerable during launch stages because they are particularly slow and bulky - sounds like an ideal target for our systems ... glowing target = easy.

I also read that the Iranian missile system comes almost completely from North Korean arms...I didn't realize that....

I am not a particular Bush fan in any fashion(I would take him over Obama ten out of ten times though), but when he said Axis of Evil there was substance to his statement. It just sounds all G.I. Joeish.

When these words came out of Bush's mouth I thought it was a mistake. Rhetoric is very important, especially when you have limited diplomatic channels with countries you have issues with. This is another reason I believe Obama made a mistake in being slow to react on the Iranian uprising.
