Neither had Darnell until his senior year, a lot of people were saying the kid was a bust and Wanya was better. Everyone expects a Trey Smith when they see 5* but Darnell took time to develop, Heard has progressively gotten better as the year went on and could take the same trajectory as Darnell did. Just my two opinion though.

Dooley, Botch, Gumpy and now Heupel. We have not had quality depth in the OL since Fulmer. Why? I mean it doesn’t matter who the coach is. Why is it every damn year we go into the season we are worried about the same thing year in and year out? The offensive line and quality depth.

How freaking long does it take to build quality depth for crying out loud?

I’ve been saying it all year.
Heupel failed in the portal last year when he only got Heard.

I think he’s mis evaluated several positions in the last 3 years and didn’t have what he thought he had.

Quality depth at any position has gone out the window with the transfer portal. Nobody worth any sort of PT is going to sit for 2-3 years like they used to

Then how can these other teams have quality depth on the OL? OSU was missing their starting center and another OL. And we couldn’t touch Howard. If Mays would have missed any time our offense would have been dead in the water. I just don’t get it.

There’s a line the staff and spyre half to walk in portal. This is a good example you don’t want another Campbell situation where you overpay for a guy when he’s not playing for what he’s worth. Not saying Thompson is John Campbell, we just cannot have this situation again.

Campbell should have moved on.

However, let's recall him playing LT, and or G in previous seasons. It is widely held he moved for the team.

Also, it is known he has a bad knee. So is that a JC thing? Or, is it a coaching thing? I mean 4 man. And we play a dude who is semi retired due to injury over younger players? Could Texas kid have been any worse? I argue no.

Offensive line has been an absolute achilles since Darnell. Whomever said that Smellarfeet, is living off his coattails, hit it on nose. Sampson made much of those yards on his own.
