I dont see the staff starting a true freshman unless they absolutely have to (boo carter). We could have ryan williams, trey smith, and jeremiah Smith all as freshmen and not a single one of them would start unless we are that bad off injury wise.Everyone that’s not projecting Sanders starting at RT are wrong (with all due respect).
You just said we didn’t develop 6 guys who are true freshmen.LT - Heard
LG - Karic
C - Moe
RG - Thompson
LT - Someone out of the portal.
Not saying this is what I want. Just trying to placate those portal people. Every one on this list would have come from the portal.
The problem as I see it, we did not do a lot of developing those younger guys on the roster: Satterwhite, Jeremias Heard, Lang (in portal), Warren, Bussell, Reddick, Anderson, Duncan, Grant, J Perry, Johnson, Ginther, and Umarov…not withstanding those with injuries. We, the fans, do not know if any of them can consistently get the job done. Caveat: Many players need a couple years to sit and learn (and practice).
It’s hard to recruit the 4-5* HS OL if we have a history of sitting them on the bench. In today’s world, top tier recruits who don’t play and/or get developed end up in the portal themselves.
And David Sanders will be a true freshman next year. You just said we didn’t develop 6 guys who are true freshmen.
They’re true freshmen.
But when you come up short in recruiting and develop, the portal is the answer. And David Sanders will be a true freshman next year.
Jeremiah Smith, Ryan Williams, and Ryan Wingo were all true freshmen albeit WRs and not OL.
Regardless, you missed the point. Recruit and develop. The portal is not always the answer.
And my point was, you can’t judge how well a player has been developed until you’ve had time to develop him. Let’s see what those freshmen look like next year. And David Sanders will be a true freshman next year.

In reality speaking you don’t pencil a freshman in starting on the Oline vs SEC competition. He might be ready. I hope he is but we need a plan if he isn’t ready to play year one.Figuratively speaking, he is absolutely the equivalent of our first round draft pick given the financial investment it took to get him here and the hype surrounding him. He’s gotta contribute early. Plain and simple.
We got some younger posters lately or people that just don’t understand football. Guys out of high school are better than they used to be as far as nutrition, prep and strength and conditioning. I’m with you though most true freshmen aren’t going to be plug and play year one game one.And my point was, you can’t judge how well a player has been developed until you’ve had time to develop him. Naming off true freshmen who come in and play right away doesn’t show that the school developed them. That shows that they were already that good when they arrived. Development isn’t a light switch.
Everything is black and white, there’s no gray area right? If he isn’t starting he’s probably transferring…..Kids transfer free all the time for dumber reasons.
Right. This stuff isn’t as clear cut as a lot of people try to make it out to be. There are so many variables involved that we don’t know anything about, regarding development of young guys.We got some younger posters lately or people that just don’t understand football. Just don’t understand the mindset that people are saying we have to play him year one.
