'25 Northwestern Transfer OL Josh Thompson

Thompson and Moe flanking Satterwhite will expedite his development, as well sticking Moe next to Sanders.
Rather have Karic back and start all 3 of those guys.

Sanders at RT. Not sure I want a freshman starting at center next season.

I think Karic is okay, but I think Thompson *could* take his spot if he’s allowed to.

I’d love to have more youth on the line and playing Satterwhite and Sanders early at least helps sell the vision to OL recruits. I’d imagine that’s going to become hard to do if they don’t start soon.

I like this better. Karic I thought played better this year but don't know he is better than Moe or Thompson. Could also have them 3 battle it out for those 2 guard spots.

That could be a potentially strong OL. The battles will be (1) can Sanders be ready as a true freshman, and not just given the spot but actually earned it (2) if Satterwhite is not ready and we move Moe's to center then how good can we be at RG.

We got a few options on this year's roster that have the talent to develop into a good RG and RT. The competition should elevate everyone.

Based on discussions we had with Moe, I think they want to potentially have Moe at C, Karic and Thompson at G. Assuming Karic gets another year.

That's an interesting opinion. OL is a position that you definitely want more older, experienced players. Not youth. I know it is easy to get enamored with that rare unicorn that comes in and plays really well as a freshman on the OL. But that is extremely rare. And most of them still struggle but get praised because they "hold their own" rather than have tons of success.

I would prefer both portal guys man the guard position and keep Satterwhite at C. Kid looked good in his 4 games this year. Operation was clean and he blocked well. If he can handle the job, no need to keep sitting him. Same for Sanders. This offseason is huge for both of those kids.

You want the most capable. When you stick with “more older, experienced,” you get Dayne Davis.

And it’s not as rare as you think. Highly rated OL, such as Sanders, often play from the beginning.

Played rated near Sanders start about 30% of the time as freshmen. It’s not rare, but it’s far from a given.

True freshman starters on the O-Line are rare anywhere. Sanders might be one of them rare exceptions then again he may blend in and take over. He will play when he is ready and start when he is ready. No reason to put them out there till they are ready. My suggestion is if they want to start get to working hard which I am sure they are doing. GBO

Recent history for the #1 OT shows he’s probably going to start.
It’s dependent on if he is truly ready. It’s one the biggest adjustments for the best of O-Lineman, first year strength versus a college player with 2-3 years in a real weight room. I hope he can start or at least add quality depth his first year, but it isn’t a easy transition and there have been some great ones that didn’t crack the starting lineup as a freshman. GBO

Lol making the argument using Dayne Davis. Older, more experienced does not = Dayne Davis. Way to use an outlier to enforce a preconceived opinion. If our older, more experienced players this next season are not better than Dayne Davis then we are in trouble.

That is quite literally what Davis is.

Youth also doesn’t mean true freshman.

Davis is the only example of an older, experienced player? There doesn't exist an older, experienced player that also has some athletic ability. Lol.
You made a blanket statement that you “definitely want older, more experienced” players on oline. My point is I don’t care. You play most capable, whether that be the true freshman or the redshirt junior.
