Not bashing Tee Martin, but

I don't feel sorry for him at all. He used UT to visit his son here in Knoxville and then get a big raise at USC. He made his alma mater look stupid when he turned them down. He knew he wasn't gonna take the UT job when he traveled down for his visit. He knew everything he needed to about UT already, he didn't need to visit. He knew his wife didn't want to move when he made the trip. Unless he lands something in California, she won't have a choice now. Maybe he can follow Kiffin when he gets a head coaching job at an FCS school.

Why feel bad for him??
1. HE made the choice to work for Kiffin.
2. HE made the choice to turn down UT.
3. Coaching is a business. Those were his decisions.
4. Now he can reap what he sows.

The only real problem is the obvious joy you have in his assumed reaping.

Hey VolInMichigan, where ya located exactly man? I was born and raised in Farmington Hills where I live now. Moved back to Detroit from Knoxville 2 yrs ago bc Dads health declined. I loved it down south and did not want to come back here lol But, I do love and cherish Motown...great city that gets a horrible rap! lol

Nice. I actually just recently moved from Clawson down to the Tampa area in Florida. I loved living there and will truly miss it.

A couple of things. #1. Tee is employed at USC until at least this season ends and he is not retained by the new administration there. #2. Lots of speculation about poor Tee, let's let Tee speak for himself, and the best I recall, his last public statement about this was he was doing what was best for his family. Being in SoCal he felt like was best, he may remain there doing all sorts of jobs there, nothing in the public record suggesting he is trying to crawl and beg his way back to The Hill.

What is the good family decision about turning your back on your alma mater and going to coach for the guy who HELPED destroy our program? Tell me that, He has kids here in knoxville and went to coach at another ocean..... yeah, great father and family man smh

Trailer Trash Punk a$$ B!tch

I'll hang up and listen.

tee stayed in california because his wife wanted to win american idol or be on glee, sad and bad decision.

Tee isn't stupid. He knew Kiffin was on thin ice. He still got paid a lot more to stay at USC, can't really blame him.

He didn't "stab his alma mater in the back" nor is he disqualified from being "VFL!!" or whatever nonsense we're calling it these days.

He made decision based on what was best for his family and himself. Don't get why that bothers people.

If CBJ asked him to come work for him next year, I'd think it was a great idea.

And you would be a fool to do so and probably one of many good reasons you are not making decisions for the program. I would take Martin in a heartbeat over some of the jokers on this staff.

Best staff in the country

I personally hope he never comes back. Based on the disgusting posts I've seen, we don't deserve him. Perhaps we don't even deserve any former Vol to work at the UT given the spiteful bile that gets spewed at them.

I appreciate Tee for what he did as a VOL and he will always be a big part of UT football...He however choose the glitter and bright lights of USC over his alma mater to continue his coaching career.....He choose Kiffin over us...He made his bed and now he's burning in it.

This fan base is screwed up with this what have you done for me lately attitude. Tee played his butt off while he was here and I appreciate what he done. The ones bashing Tee on here do not deserve to be Vol fans.I hope Tee does well in the future.

Good players don't always make good coaches. Tee not coming back to UT was no big deal this year and won't be a big deal next year. He can have his LA glitter life style and coach somewhere else, we will grow just fine without him.

Didn't seem to affect the recruits last year or the upcoming 2014 class negatively. He owes us nothing. We owe him nothing. Move on.

Who cares, He won NC with peyton's team. He's not a VFL, Him and Jay Graham can both GTH

Wow this kind of ignorance amazes me .. Let's be honest he took a better position in a better city u cant fault a man for moving forward with his career .. And im not gonna even get started on the NC with Peyton's team...smh

WTF??? Dude has a contract to make 2x as much as we offered. Selective memory on your part in that you conveniently forget that Tee was practically begging for a job here just one year prior and Dools didn't even return Tee's phone call. The fact that he considered coming back at all last year speaks volumes, throw in family concerns. 600k >>>>>>> 300k when you have numerous kids.

I love my job, and am extremely loyal, but if the opportunity to put my 3 kids thru college with 1 years paycheck then you can bet I'd take it. Providing for your family always trumps your school ties.

I think what upset people most was the way he handled it. Heard Jayson Swain, who's a fellow Alabama guy and very close to Tee talk about this yesterday. He said he very publicly embarrassed his Alma Mater and its way too soon to be discussing Tee coming back to UT.... maybe with the passing of time but not anytime soon.

I agree with this. I also agree with your statement about more $$ to take care if your family. However, it seemed like he refused to read the tea leaves regarding Kiffin's eventual and easy to predict ouster and a team on sanctions for another year in 2014. It wasn't as if he was returning to a great, stable situation at USC. In terms of taking care of his family, it seemed very short sighted.

He turned down his alma mater and chose to go back to a program everyone knew was in trouble.... Led by public enemy #2 (he who shall not be named is #1)...Felt like he was pouring salt in the wound.

He already had that job. I believe he was offered a raise at his alma mater from his current job and was eventually offered another raise at USC.

There are only a select few who are "bashing" Tee. Most are simply saying that he had his opportunity, passed on it, and stayed with a coach who was clearly on the hot seat. I see no reason why we should immediately go right back and ask again. If he didn't want to come the first time to help build his alma mater back up, then so be it. But, we don't owe him anything else, and I would certainly understand if CBJ doesn't want to give him another shot. Wht is that difficult to understand?

Excellent post.

Same graduating class, genuine nice guy, did great things as a Volunteer, struggled through multiple practice squads in the NFL, bounced around Europe & the CFL and made decisions that work best for his career and family later in life..

I'd welcome him with open arms if he Vol Walks with the other 100 VFL's this weekend..

O i completely understand that i just cant and won't understand this guy saying hes not a VFL and he can go to hell. Is that how u feel as well?? And the cherry on top saying who cares he win a title with Peyton's team .. I just cant

This thread makes me sick. Tee made a career choice, with his family in mind and some of you are acting like he pissed on the 98 crystal football and $h!t on his UT jersey. Dude still won a NC here, wtf have you done for UT?

I think Tee was like many it seems, bought into to Kiffin's Bull shat. As to him returning, he made a business decision to remain at USC, the Vols need to make the same determination as to whether it would be beneficial to bring him back.

Since when has making a decision for the good of your family forfeited your VFL status? Tee is a great guy and a hell of an alum. I'd be crazy if I didn't say I'd love to see him on our sidelines some day.
