Not espn's fault that manning lost the heisman?

I don't think he should have been one, anyways. Guy was awful for the first half of the season, IIRC.

i completely agree.

You stated Manning lost the hypesman because he lost to Florida but Woodson won it because of one game at the end of the season. You can't have it both ways.

of course i can have it both ways. manning was the favorite and losing to florida is what opened it up for woodsen. beat florida and woodsen doesn't have a chance.

After the heisman voting was over. Are you saying if Woodson didn't win a national championship the trophy shouldn't have gone to him?
No. I don't mind if Vols fans feel like Manning deserved the award or that ESPN helped promote Woodson. I just don't like the idea (not necessarily expressed in this thread) that Woodson was just some random player pulled off the streets by ESPN in a huge conspiracy to prevent a Vol from winning a Heisman. I'm not old enough to remember much of his play, but I'm pretty sure he was an elite player from the moment he stepped on campus and it does seem like he had an outstanding senior year.

If we are looking at what has happened to both players after the voting was finished, Manning's long-run career speaks for itself.
Manning has had a great career, but it's not like Woodson has sucked in the NFL.

define push. yes they showed their product. did they campaign for woodsen and against manning? of course not.
They definitely put Woodson out there as a favorite son candidate for all the reasons that have been previously stated by several posters.

i don't disagree, but i still think he wins if Chavis stops the fun-n-gun. but i'm not sure why wooden having more highlight plays is ESPNs fault.

Saying "Peyton" lost to Florida is bogus. Peyton did everything he could to win the heisman, minus getting a network on his bandwagon.

Considering Woodson had a network selling their product, and Peyton didn't, then it is pretty reasonable to assume ESPN had a part in him winning.

Maybe it's already posted here, but didn't an official for ESPN or the Heisman Committee say that they thought it would be interesting if a DB won the Heisman?

Now you're just arguing for the sake of arguing.

Since you are the TS and a Woodson supporter it might help your argument if you actually knew how to spell his last name. FYI: it's not wooden either.

he had a key pick 6. i'd say he didn't do everything he could. am i saying he's 100% to blame? Nope. but wins and losses matter.

still not sure how woodson was being pushed exactly. showing his highlights?

I'm also of the opinion that had UT beaten UF, in Gainesville, Manning wins the Heisman going away and UT plays for the national title.

UGA and LSU were average teams back then, and you guys absolutely owned Bama.

A Cal fan starting **** on a Tennessee site. Nice...

"This is the best part"

"Choking"

"You guys had your head up Peyton's ass"

It's nice that you care so much about Tennessee. I can honestly I've never given a **** about California. That's probably because I wasn't born in 1905 to enjoy there 1920's success.

Maybe you should try making friends with California fans? All you need is some rope and a chair. That way they can't walk away from listening to your b.s.

When Fowler invited Woodson & company up in the ESPN stage, I got physically ill.

How many Heisman candidates have done that? It was blatant homerism. Like it or not, voters watched that garbage.

ESPN, by your own words, was selling their product.

Even if I weren't a UT fan I would still believe Manning got robbed.

I tend to agree, Peyton lost the Heisman because he couldn't beat UF. At least that's my opinion.

Just a Tennessee hater.

I always root for you guys to win. except the two times you played cal.

how many qbs have won the heisman who weren't on undefeated teams or teams with signature late season victories?

Running commercials for upcoming Michigan games with taglines referring to "Heisman candidate Charles Woodson" or having the talking heads on their college football shows start throwing his name around more.

I'm not into a black helicopter conspiracy theory thing but to say they didn't push a player who played every game that season on ABC/ESPN (10 of them national broadcasts) over a player who was shown on a couple of regional broadcasts is naive.

that's just garbage. if peyton beats florida he wins the heisman. did wooden get publicity? sure. but are you really arguing the heisman voters soley listen to espn? you guys just can't look at this rationally.

ESPN has been showing Big Ten games since 1979 and ABC has been showing them much longer. That network and Big Ten have had numerous agreements/contracts over the years. Of course they're going to promote a Big Ten player like "wooden" over an SEC player.

Yes. I'm seriously arguing that Peyton would have never been invited to dance the funky chicken while Fowler fapped under the table.
Fowler runs gameday, not Herby.

CBS's SEC broadcasts were national, and that year UF and UT took turns just about every week playing in the coveted 3:30 time slot.

You can argue ABC/ESPN pushed Michigan because of Woodson, but at least have your facts straight.
