Not so fast my friends.

both teams had alot of injuries. why do people keep saying this? i know of almost 10 guys the Vols could have used in that game. they could have had a few more injuries and still been deeper than UT. we had many guys out and we were still out manned anyway

Human nature. We did the same thing when Hunter went down in the FL game two years ago.

The final drive with 1:55 left was the biggest disappointment in the game. GA drove 75 yards with back-ups. The wheel route to the running back once again broke our back. Follow that up with an unsportsman penalty which put them on the goal line and the end was written. Defensively we still cannot get the stop when we need it. Have they turned the corner, yet to be determined, but it was nice to see UT have an SEC game that was undetermined late in the 4th quarter. There's been too many blow outs last few years.

Careful - cautious optimism will get you nothing but insults here.

But you're right, we haven't turned a corner until we've beaten someone that matters. But we did make a huge step towards that corner Saturday night.

I agree - the jury is still out. I would have liked to see if our defense could have stopped Murray had Georgia not totally turtled in the second half - seemed to me like Richt took his game away from his team's major strength (the passing game) and one of our weaknesses (same).

With respect o Worley - I agree he stepped it up, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves at this point - the Georgia D gave up more passing yards to North Texas than they did to us.

Murray is not a backup and the drive started and ended with him.

At first, I was disappoointed in the wheel route as well, but if you look at the replay, our defender got picked. The pass was past the line of scrimmage, so I think there is a good argument for PI. But, oh well.

Anybody watching on TV must have seen the stats on GA special teams showing a 99 yard kick return to North Texas the previous week. Disappointed they didn't try for a return on the last kick off

Cliff notes: "We lost but played good, but I dont like our coach yet, but we got beat by UGA's backups, but I like our players, but we lost again, but I'm confident."

Way to take a stance on something.

Careful there friend...sounds like ur fixin to rip a nut sack teetering on the fence

Georgia also gave up a blocked punt for a touchdown to North Texas.

If I've learned anything in the last few yrs in the sec the top team will always get the calls in close gms. The bad thing about it the refs sometimes makes it so obvious which team is going to get the favorible

I want to believe we have turned the proverbial corner, but two things irk me. For your consideration:

1. Richt after a big win (LSU). I actually had a feeling this was going to happen so much so that I took the Vols plus the points and won. Look at Richt's track record. The Dawgs have a history of laying eggs when they have just beaten a big opponent. It has happened on multiple occasions. Couple that with the 14 point lead they jumped off to and they were absolutely primed for an upset.

2. The injuries. We did not outplay the number 6 Georgia Bulldawgs. We outplayed the number 20 (or some such) Georgia Bulldawgs (due to talent loss) who were reeling from injuries and hence shell-shocked.

For these two reasons, I am not willing to say we've turned a corner.

Butch's gutsiness on 4th down, the raucous environment, the play of the freshmen and Pig, and the effort given in the second half, though, are all tangible things that have me hoping. I think it is a bit too early to annoint Butch as savior of Volunteer Football. My confidence meter just ticked up though.

really dude.either jump onboard or be left behind. the choice is yours.go vols!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, exactly how I feel. Confidence is a very good thing, now we just need to build on it. I changed my avatar from "pie in the face" to the new "Pig Gives his All for UT" so I am officially ON BOARD now.

As a Dooley supporter, i can honestly say that this team would NOT have given that effort if Dooley was here, so finally, after 1/2 a season -- we are better off. I have turned the corner and I am ready to support this staff going forward. (not that it matters to any of you, but it's the story of 1 doubter who turned on Saturday in the second half).

We were missing 4 big time contributors as well. We absolutely turned the corner and I think we see the same results on the game if both teams were at full strength.

We were missing:

Couch
Saulsberry
Lane
Maggitt.

Then explain to me the "delay of game" call on the Georgia defense when we were going to punt? If the zebras were wanting Georgia to win that game, that call (which is very very odd and unusual to say the least) never happens. Refs make bad calls against everybody - it's part of the game as coaches and players (who make mistakes themselves during a game) understand.

I tend to agree somewhat with the op. Everyone was very excited with Saturday's game, but didnt we all do the same last year after nc state. If we win/play like sat against USCe then maybe ill start to think the program has turned the corner, but Georgia could have been a fluke. Remember just last week after south bama everyone was predicting (myself included) one maybe two more wins. Now after one game the team has suddenly turned the corner?

I am very impressed with the teams fight and energy on the sidelines and we have a lot to look forward to in the future with the freshmen that are making plays out there, but I want to see more before I start to say UT is back.

Hope we go and knock USCe in the mouth and get Butch his first SEC win, but im cautiously optimistic. GBO!

While I agree we haven't quite turned the corner yet, you can not question the level of playing and passion we had.

Im not questioning anything of that nature. Im loving the coaching staff and players passion and the fight they showed Saturday and even against Oregon and Florida, this team never gives up on the staff. And I can say with certainty that if we play USCe the entire game like we played Georgia the second half there is no way they beat us at home with our crowd, but that is what I want to see before I start to believe UT football is back. Its definitely headed im the right direction but I still want to see that Georgia wasnt a fluke.

1. You don't cite any evidence that Richt has a letdown after a big win. How frequently has it happened? What was the last time it happened? Saying it's one thing, backing it up another. Try to cite some actual games, and not just assume.

2. No one is saying that Butch is absolutely the savior...just that the second half was the best football the Vols have played since at least USCe in 2009, and maybe even uga that year, and that this makes us hopeful...hopeful...not CONVINCED.

Does that help?

Not trying to start anything but you do realize that they have arguably one of the best QBs in SEC history. I mean he did just break the SEC record for passing yards and Tennessee showed how he plays with pressure on him. UGA was not missing any of their O-Line and their run game was sub-par with Mount McCullers in the backfield on every play. AJ probably had 17 of his famous neck tackles. Andy Murray played well in the 4th but still had a sub-par game. Tennessee is slowly on their way back up.

true re biggest disappointment, plus it highlights my biggest overall concern.

in his 13 year tenure, saint richt has fired exactly two assistants. they both now coach for UT. on defense.

This defense is 100x better than last years and although they can give up yards they always tend to hold em or even better get turnovers. They held Murray one of the best statistically to ever play qb in the SEC to well under his norm. The defense is definitely the biggest upside to this years team. With the exception of Oregon's blazingly fast offense they have looked very very good this season.

a team up 14pts is primed for an upset?

georgia was definitely in a vulnerable position. Nearly every one of their starting skill players was out of the game (including top two back, top two or three receivers), and they were on the road in the conference after an emotional LSU win. That is an upset special if I've ever heard of one. And the fact that we couldn't win it only proves the OP's original point--we've still got a long way to go. This team can't expect to beat anybody unless they play as good as if not better than they played against georgia. Anybody who think we're just going to roll over teams the rest of the way is dreaming. I'm happy for the improvement, but we need to start winning these freakin' SEC games.

First, I'm on the "we've turned the corner" side of this discussion.

BUT, we've still not figured out running QB's. Even Murray looked like Johnny Football on that one keeper. SC worries me if Shaw is back running around.

It sure was fun though to be excited after 3 quarters of football again!
