Not sure we are a top 10 team.

I guess the terrible performance with AP was excusable too. Or, that ugly win against currently one win Virginia. South Carolina is the only time we have looked somewhat competent this year.
And yet we'd have shat the bed and be 3-3 or 2-4 at this point in the very recent past.

I don't care about blowing everyone out. I want to win. And we're by and large doing it.

I agree. If you had told me during the Pruitt years "just hang tight, in a few years we're gonna finish 11-2 and then be 5-1 to start the season after that" I'd be very optimistic about the future.

As long as Tennesse has more points at end of game what does it matter....I would rather win ugly than lose...the numbers Hooker and company put up last year was great... everyone enjoyed watching the video game numbers..new year new team..Go Vols...

Show us a clip of a WR downfield on that play. It’s always Joe’s fault!!
Then he needs to stick his head down and make a legitimate effort to get the first. He DEFINITELY could have had that first. What he did was left us in 3rd and 2/3 which wasn't exactly our strong suit this weekend

This is a transition year - I’m fine with where we are

Make a good bowl and move on to the Nico era

Transition years for the past 15 years usually meant we were 2-4 at this point, the team has quit, and the head coach was about to be fired. Again, Im good with where we are
So true. This was always a transition year. We are 5-1 playing Ollie Lane and Dayne Davis. The loss to Florida was troublesome, but the defense was supposed to carry us and has.

Don't give up this year's running game or special teams.

Really, we just need to get our pass attack back up to elite. Then we're cooking with gas. Probably have to wait for next season to get there, though.

Go Vols!
We lose some good ones on the DL after this season. Thomas and Baron are studs. If they could return next year, we’d be a juggernaut

I have a different take on this team going forward, Joe Milton is just good enough to beat some good teams. If teams going forward man up to stop the run, I honestly believe JM will beat you. We have established that we can run the rock and play D. (not sure what happened in the first half against Florida) But all in all we have been solid on D and Special teams. CJH is really in a good spot honestly, I think teams going forward will man up to stop the run and i think that opens CJH to plan accordingly. I have watched UT football for a long time and it's a good feeling to be able to run the football, something that's plagued UT teams in the past 20 years before the CJH era....one question i do ask is, How much of a factor is JM in the running attack? Something tells me these other coaches have to respect his Capabilities.... it appears to me that JM is setting in a good spot from here on out as well. He's already had failure and the team isn't completely resting on his shoulders. Give the D a ton of credit. UT has set themselves up really well, controls their own destiny in the East. Beat Bama this week and the conversation of top 10 is very realistic. Should be a fun next 5 -6 weeks of football. GO VOLS.....Thie team could be in a lot better shape than many see. But i think this is how they do, D fence, running game, ST and Big plays from the QB being the last.... We aren't the 22 team offensively.

Let's not forget expectations. Most predicted 8-4 this year with 9-3 above expectations and 10-2 as well exceeding expectations... We sit at 5-1 with some tough games left.
Hope is what keeps the dream alive!

The fun part is, we don't have to get back to elite pass attack for this year. Just a "good" pass attack, i.e. executing and hitting the plays we are being given by the defense, will open the run up even more. So, we can still cook with gas this year, providing they can get that out of Milton and the receivers. To me, looks like both he and they are in their heads too much at the moment and not just letting the game flow. Seems like Milton is always just a fraction of a second behind in his decision making... We got spoiled by the speed at which Hooker could make the correct decision almost every time.

Virginia was first game of the season and was not close. Im not sure what ugly win you're talking about. They played reserves on defense after halftime. AP was a lot of different things and was not close either. They scored a fluke TD when Slaughter fell out of the break. But please explain to me how the games were ugly and close.

No...he's talking about when there was an offsides and Joe made a half hearted attempt to run for first down and stepped out 2 yards short when he had the room to make the first down
We don't really have a proven QB behind Milton. So the smart thing for him to do was step out of bounds. If he would've gotten hurt running someone over, there's a whole new set of problems. It was a free play.

A&M was a damn good team despite what some might think. Bama and Georgia will be tough games. Tennessee should stomp Kentucky and Missouri if we have no major injuries between now and then.

If you’re worried about getting hurt you’re going to get hurt. Joe crushed a guy later in the game on a run.

And there was nothing “smart” about that play. If you’re scared of contact or being injured from hitting a smaller db or LBer why pull down the ball and run at all? He knew it was a free play, throw it down field and let your guys try to make a play.

Truth. Honestly, I have to question the expectations and rationality of anyone thinking this is a top 10 team. Now stranger things have happened and they might win out and shock the world, but to be 5-1 heading into Tuscaloosa shocks and pleases me no end. I'm convinced some folks just sit around trying to find the most insane/outrageous things to post or complain about. Kinda sad that they miss out on all the enjoyment a season brings by focusing on things like this.
