but if Oklahoma is able to hire Lon Kruger, I want Mike Hamilton fired and Jimmy Cheek banned from ever getting within 100 miles of a coaching search again.

No kidding. Martin seems like a great guy and has a promising future....but we could have done so much better. We blew this.

Again, Martin seems to be on his way to being a great coach one day, but hiring someone so early on the learning curve was utterly moronic. Could work out, but more than likely could be disastrous for the program for years to come.

I like the hire, but would crap over this.

How much would it take to land Kruger and why doesn't UT spend it?
I'm still not convinced he'll leave UNLV. However, he's only making 1.2 there. Thus, you could give him a half a million dollar raise and still be under 2.

We are not going to spend the money plus no big name coach wants this job because of possible sanctions. It's not that hard to figure out why we hired who we did.

It didn't take Arizona long to rebound.

Oklahoma has NCAA problems just as serious as UT's.

I like Martin and I think he has great potential, but it is obvious that we were shopping in the bargain store brand aisle...

Given Kiffin and Pearl - how much do you think Kruger's past factored into the choice (no ethical baggage)

EDIT: I thought Kruger was forced out of some job for some improprieties - am I imaging that?

I agree. Martin has a good future ahead of him, but he's still not a proven entity. Hamilton always looks for a so called "diamond in the rough" in every coaching vacancy we have. I like Dooley, but he obviously wasn't attracting many big time offers from any of the other power schools due to him being an unproven coach. Tennessee will never get a big name coach under Mike Hamilton as AD.

I was just about to say the same thing...

Kruger has as pristine a reputation as anyone in his profession. He'd be exactly the guy you'd want to hire if you've had 'AA issues.

This doesn't surprise me. I think that Martin has great upside, but of course UT went the cheaper route rather than pony up the money to get a bigger name..

This hire was going to be a safe hire with a coach the opposite of Pearl. Just like the Dooley hire for football. If Martin had not been hired by us he would have been a serious candidate at Missouri or Purdue if Painter left.

I agree Hat. I thought the hire was rushed. There were great options out there and the search wasn't properly vetted. But who am I?!

Quote MH: Mike Hamilton noticed Cuonzo Martin long before Bruce Pearl’s dismissal

How many actually believes this ? Im calling it BS

This was not Hamiltons decision. Hope nobody truely believes they let Hamilton make this call especially since he's gone in June. They had to make a hire with a squeaky clean reputation. You guys will see this is a great hire. Nobody knew Pearl would do what he did at UT. Give the man a chance. He will do great things and bring in much better recruits than Pearl.

Most all AD's have a list of potential coaches at any given time. There's no reason not to believe him.
