This was not Hamiltons decision. Hope nobody truely believes they let Hamilton make this call especially since he's gone in June. They had to make a hire with a squeaky clean reputation. You guys will see this is a great hire. Nobody knew Pearl would do what he did at UT. Give the man a chance. He will do great things and bring in much better recruits than Pearl.

You must not of read the article.Cheek said it was MH decision so you can take that up with Cheek.

Cheek supported Hamilton yesterday and said the hire was Hamilton's. Cheek agreed with the decision. I don't think Hamilton is going anywhere. You can't blame the Pearl mess on him.

I feel the same way about Anthony Grant. Much more impressive resume than Cuonzo.

Added benfit: It would've made the well known racist, "Bamacheats" happy in so many ways.

Did anybody see the shaka smart ESPN interview yesterday? He is a smart azz

Didn't see it but he looks it. When I see him I think black version of Edward Norton, circa American History X.

He is a smart guy--turned down a scholarship from Harvard to play B-ball.

Why not ban Grunfield too?? His last pick for the job got us into all this mess with the 'AA. It's not like Coach Martin is working with a full deck here. I don't care if he is a NBA exec., he's the general manager for the Wizards, the second worst team in the NBA, who just won their 2 game on the road of the season last night.

Are you saying that Pearl was a bad hire?

I agree. Martin has a good future ahead of him, but he's still not a proven entity. Hamilton always looks for a so called "diamond in the rough" in every coaching vacancy we have. I like Dooley, but he obviously wasn't attracting many big time offers from any of the other power schools due to him being an unproven coach. Tennessee will never get a big name coach under Mike Hamilton as AD.

I'd call Lane Kiffin a fairly big name. And Pearl was pretty sought after having just led UWM to the sweet sixteen.

Ivy League schools don't give athletic scholarships.

The biggest problem I have with the hire is the timing. Martin would have been available a week or 2 later, why pull the trigger that quickly?

I'll take the package deal.

It was time for a change though.

Yet, there was a history of Pearl involved in 'AA investigations, one for him snitching and the other for him doing the same thing at UWM that got him in trouble here. I want to know who does the background checks when hiring these guys, oh wait, that's right, they only take 2 days to hire someone. There's just no way you can make snap hires, given our current situation. Who knows though, Coach Martin may take us to the promise land, or he may have his hands tied so bad that he can't even wipe is butt after taking a morning crap. We will see, and hopefully it's positive.

Quote MH: Mike Hamilton noticed Cuonzo Martin long before Bruce Pearl’s dismissal

How many actually believes this ? Im calling it BS

I believe that he noticed it. Missouri State played us pretty well earlier this season in TBA

And there would have been no one else to move up and take the job?? Gregg Marshall is still at Wichita State.

I agree with this. I wanted us to make Grant, Frank, and Stevens --2-4 million dollars-- turn down the big bucks. But the administration identified Martin as their guy, apparently, and were afraid of losing him to one of their coaching search competitors.

but if Oklahoma is able to hire Lon Kruger, I want Mike Hamilton fired and Jimmy Cheek banned from ever getting within 100 miles of a coaching search again.

You can have Kruger all you want. I did not want him and have never liked him as a coach. Glad we did not get him.

Even though we ALL wanted it to happen, our situation with the 'AA wouldn't allow it. Still though, there were plenty of more qualified candidates out there, who were still playing.
