Notice of Allegations Released!

It really is a shame. But, that move was a slap in the face of the University who apparently was trying to support him. I don't see any scenario under which I would support keeping Pearl after that.

I think the NCAA sees it that way also, hence the major.

I agree. Pearl has done a lot of good for UT since his arrival. However, I am afraid he has erased all of that with this bs. Hamilton needs to handle his business, and fire Pearl. That is the only way UT can regain any credibility back in the public eye at this point.

OK, but you already didn't support keeping Pearl before that. In fact, you wouldn't support Pearl if he hadn't lied to the NCAA at all--you don't think he's a good coach.

It most cases if not all, the "bump" rule is classified as a minor infraction by the NCAA. They tagged Pearl with a major allegation for it. You be the judge.

Speculation?

Maybe the NCAA hated the timing too. Doesn't necessarily mean that Pearl was intentionally flouting the self-imposed recruiting ban or anything like that.

I'm not saying it isn't disappointing, because it obviously is. But is it grounds for termination/moral outrage? Pretty sure that no one here really knows until more details emerge.

Agreed if that charge stands. From what I've heard, Hamilton has knew about that allegation for sometime and doesn't think it will hold up. However, if the NCAA deems Pearl indeed committed a major after the conference, then he needs to go.

I don't think it is as much of he didn't support Pearl, as it was he didn't support the system Pearl was running this year. JMO though.

That's simply a lie. I have said that barring something new or Pearl getting a year suspension or more, he should be retained. I didn't know that he committed a major violation after the press conference. And, I have never, ever stated that I wished to see him fired because of his coaching. Try knowing what you're talking about before just spouting off.

Exactly right. But, if you stay here long enough, you'll understand that any criticism of these people's hero makes you want him immediately fired.

I am long time reader, just recently made an account though. So I know what you mean. I agree. I love Bruce Pearl as a coach. He has really let me down though as a person as of late. Almost to the point of being embarrassed. Last night watching him blow kisses to the fans as he left the floor just makes me sick for thinking that was awesome. Oh well.

Please watch your step on your way down from your high horse! Let me throw a hypothetical out for you. Suppose u are traveling down I40 slightly exceding the speedlimit and ur buddy shoots u a text and u respond with a quick reply of ok. Nothing big right. Well the police officer notices u doing this and pulls u over. When he comes to the window he says u were speeding and notices ur cell in ur lap and asks the question if u were texting(knowing full well u were)? How do u respond?

Dude, dont be so dramatic. What, do you think he needs to be tared and feathered on the Knoxville strip? If you really think that every major program in the country doesnt do this kind of stuff, then you have some real issues.

Not every program lies to the NCAA about a secondary violation

My mistake, then. I thought you strongly disliked Pearl and his coaching.

That is a lie. Pearl is not my hero, I am not one of "these people," and I do not disagree with every criticism of Pearl.

Try knowing what you're talking about before spouting off.

Here we go again....let the fighting begin.

Nah, LawVol and I won't fight long.

Anyway, we both made the same mistake: we each mischaracterized the other's position. I made a point by answering him like he answered me, but I have no real desire to get into a fight with him.

I actually respect Law as a poster, I just think he should be less caustic at times. :hi:

Pearl is a showman, pure and simple. When he got to UT, he found out quickly the 'values' that a lot of people had/have.The rest is history.

Right. Lying about an inconsequential secondary violation always has great results. Just take Bruce for example.

Not reporting a secondary violation could be construed as a lie and coverup. Additionally, when an investigation occurs and the HC denies knowledge of violations, he again lies.

The recruiting ban started 9/24.
