Notre Dame preparing "major" offer for Urban Meyer?

To sustain a championship program at Florida, you have to stay ahead of LSU, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, etc. To sustain a championship-level program at Notre Dame, you have to stay ahead of Michigan State and Navy. It's like being Florida State in the ACC during the 90s.

Notre Dame should be an attractive job right now. USC's dynasty appears to be crumbling and Michigan is a mess, so if a great coach can go in and right the ship quickly, he'd have a straight shot right to the BCS title game. Weis has supposedly recruited well, so the talent for a quick turnaround ought to be there.

No question that Florida is an easier job on a personal level; you get to sleep in your own bed at night and the weather's a lot nicer. But there's also no doubt that there's a glamour and allure about the Domers that nobody else can match. Win in Gainesville or Norman and you're the most popular guy in the state, but win in South Bend and college football starts naming awards after you. It's easy to see why it would be tempting.

(I hope Meyer stays. I want him to stay because it's comfortable in Florida. I want him to grow old, soak in the quality of life, and retire there.)

Nonsense....to sustain a championship program at Notre Dame, eventually you have to start beating the LSU's, Alabamas, Southern Cals and Floridas of college football. And recently when given the opportunity they've failed miserably.

Notre Dame has the easiest road in terms of getting to a BCS bowl. Notre Dame has been outmatched in the last 3 BCS bowls they've played in, and it's not as though the current national powers are taking a step back in terms of recruiting or on-field play. Hell, USC's worst team in the past 6-7 years beat Weiss's supposed best Notre Dame team in South Bend.

To win a national championship at Notre Dame, you have to beat three good teams in a season, and that's if you count Michigan as good. You have to beat USC, and you have to beat whoever you play in the title game. That's it. Everybody else on your schedule is a mid-tier program or worse. That's a heck of a lot different than getting pounded in the SEC from September through November, and then having to turn around and win a conference championship game against a ranked opponent. Give them a great coach and, if USC slides, that's a gravy run right to the title game.

And there's no reason a great Notre Dame coach couldn't win the title game once he's in it, if he has the players. The Domers get reamed in in the bowls because they're always a mediocre team that gets slotted into a lot better bowl than they deserve, where they get curbstomped by a much better team. They're always mediocre because they've had crappy coaches for 20 years. Give them a great coach and a couple of recruiting classes, and they would be right back in the thick of it.

Get back with me when Notre Dame starts beating Michigan and Southern Cal consistently every year.

If Notre Dame ever hires an elite coach instead of their usual bozos, they'll lap Michigan (at least for awhile), handle the rest of their creampuff schedule, and turn the series with USC into one of the biggest games of the year. There's no excuse for a team with their resources, national profile, and lack of a conference schedule to be as awful as they've been.

For the longest time, I just couldn't see this happening, probably because I didn't want to. I think Florida can basically match ND in terms of the dough. But Notre Dame is Notre Dame and if you look overall at Meyer's resume and comments over the years, its basically the ONE job left for him in college football better than what he has now.

If Florida wins the SEC and the BCS, it might be to the point now that its probable that he scoots. Even if not, I think Gator fans have to admit it is still a distinct possibility.

I'm bored and was just thinking...what are the chances that CUM goes to Notre Dame, since obviously, Weis will be fired. I think he will go considering the end of an era is coming up with Timmy graduating. CUM has no buyout and I know Notre Dame can pay him whatever he wants. Thoughts?

Florida loses their whole defense and Tebow after this year. If they win another National Title I think he bolts...JMO...

Urban Meyer has stated that coaching Notre Dame is his "dream job." Tim Tebow and Brandon Spikes are both seniors, so they won't be back next year. Now is the time for him to leave, but he has built a great program in Florida.

After reading the comments section under the article I'm calling BS on this. ND's plane untrackable.... The whole Nike "football only" deal.... 10 year contract?? This is BS.

The part about the ND plane being untrackable is true per one of the beat writers I heard being interviewed on Sirius yesterday.
