Number 1 Seed.

If Tennessee beats A&M today there is a good chance we get the nod for the last #1 seed. The SEC is as tough a conference as any this year.

Why not us?? Before the tournament everybody was putting auburn and Kentucky as potential 1 seeds. We beat both teams!! Kentucky twice!! Why can’t we be a number 1 if we win the conference championship? Am I missing something??
I’m reading that people even have Tennessee as a 3 seed? That’s absolutely a smack to the face of this team.!
If we win tomorrow what holds us back from the one seed? If Kentucky wins the tournament I can almost guarantee they would get the 1 seed and we’ve had a better season then them imo.

Our blood ain’t blue. Simple as that bro.

We’re not getting a 1 seed. But just for argument sake, Gonzaga, Arizona, and Kansas are undoubtedly #1. Baylor won arguably the toughest conference in the country, and ranks higher than us in the NET, and both resume and quality metrics in the teamsheets. They have just as many Q1 wins but with fewer losses. There’s really no strong justification that TENNESSEE would be seeded over them

I’m not convinced that TN gets a 2 with a win over aTm. But Bruce lost early AND had a much easier conference schedule. It w/b a se we ious screw job to give it to Barn instead.

But I don’t want to jump ahead. Got to whoop them Aggies asses.

I agree but with a win today, we should be the first 2 seed or at worse, the 2nd - 2 seed. That would put us in same bracket with Baylor or Kansas, which I like better than having to be in same bracket as Arizona or Gonzaga. Would love to avoid them until we absolutely had too.

No chance. Zero....zip. It's not even 50/50 that we'll get a #2 seed......in order to do that we'll have to bump Aub. or KY to a three. If the tourney selection people would favor the last 10 games played, we'd be a shoo-in for a two.....but that's not the case anymore, Sad but true..

Why would we have to bump Auburn or Kentucky? I mean, I think there’s a strong argument for us being the highest of the SEC teams. But all 3 of us could be 2s with either Villanova or Purdue.

Purdue and Duke are #2 seed locks, so there is no room for all 3 of us (Aub, KY, TN). And since Aub and KY have been above us.....hence the reason why we'd have to bump them. Which IS a possibility - we have a #8 NET after all...

We're 8th in the NET and 8th in KenPom. Unless the committee weights recent performance higher than body of work it would be reasonable to expect a 2 seed. Provided we win today, that is.
The committee has gone out of their way to pooh pooh the notion of favoring recent performance. They pinky-swear they've taken last 10 games played off the table.

Purdue and Duke are definitely not 2 seed locks. Could they both get 2 seeds? I guess. But I don’t think both will.

Right now were still a three seed in the latest bracketology and Kentucky is a two according to Lunardi even thought we have a better sos, rpi, and one more Q 1 and 2 win plus have beaten Kentucky 2 of 3 times. If we win today no way we should be lower than a two. Really should be a one with a win, but these bracketology guys really have me confused.

That’s what I’m saying!! Like why does Kentucky deserve a 2? We beat them twice and we rank higher then them in those categories. Coach cal must have some calluses on his knees 😬😂

Honestly, we have zero control on how a committee is going to ultimately seed us. To get to where we want to be, we are going to have to beat a bevy of really good teams, some of who will be hot at the right time. We can beat anybody. What gives me hope is that yesterday we lost points off turnovers, points in the paint, lost fast break points, and second chance points. We also lost on the boards. We shoot decently, make 6 three-pointers, and not great at the FT line. Still, we find a way to win against a Top 5 team playing basically a home game. Oh yeah, let’s not ignore the officiating, because facts are facts. This team has carved out ways to win when we don‘t have our “A” game. Coaching, leadership, perseverance, and chemistry are what this team is about.

If I was in England I could get a quick bet down on us getting a 2 seed. It should be a lock.

I think no SEC team gets a #1 seed. UT shouldn’t have lost to Texas Tech, Alabama, and Texas for the #1 seed (I picked those three games as ones against good teams that UT should’ve won). One or two wins in those games probably means UT would’ve been playing for a #1 seed today and certainly so if UT won all three. But UT lost those games. I think there will be two and maybe even three SEC #2 seeds and that’s still a pretty good indication of the strength of the conference this year.

I agree..they’ll want Kentucky and Auburn to be #2 seeds..plus you have Purdue that if they win today has pretty much been above us all year
I'll put our resume up against both UK and AU. I've always heard the committee gives weight to how a team is playing at this time of year. If so, how do we not get the nod over those two teams? Especially Auburn. Will the committee ignore our wins against those two? If we win the the title today, we'd have to be above both those teams at which ever line we end up on. I can't see any metric that doesn't favor us vs UK/AU.

I think a #2 seed would be the highest we can get. Our final push since the Texas loss has been impressive. Come tourney time, it is all about matchups and how the officials call the games. We clearly are good enough to get to the 2nd week if we play well. After that only 2 more wins to the Final Four.

Get to the Sweet 16 we will probably be playing one of the following teams if seeding is intact (which it never is) :
Texas Tech, Purdue, Duke, Villanova, Wisconsin, UCLA

Elite 8 would be likely: Gonzaga, Arizona, Kansas or Baylor

Our inability to make bunnies, make FTs, and struggle to close out games gives me pause with many of the teams above. Personally I would prefer to face Purdue in Sweet 16 if we get that far and if seeds play out. They can score but can’t defend anyone. Duke will have officials on their side for Coach K‘s swan song.
