‘23 NV RB Will Stallings

It has nothing to do with someone being scared. Jabari Small is a 2 year starter now. Top backs will want to go somewhere and showcase their talents as a starter on a winning team. No matter how good they are, the best case scenario for anyone is 1b if they come here. We can't gauge this on former high school rankings. Name me some starters on a bad to middle of the road team, that are not draft eligible and would definitively beat out Jabari Small as the starter next season.

If someone of the talent of Jahmir Gibbs or Zach Evans comes to Tennessee, he's the starter. Day 1. Period. Not even close. Starters get beat out when better talent comes along. Going into the 1992 season, James Stewart and Aaron Hayden (two future NFL RBs) were the returning #1 and #2 RBs. That didn't stop Charlie Garner from coming in from JUCO and taking the #1 spot. Because he was better.

If that type of talent isn't out there (and I don't know if it is), that's one thing. There's no need to pursue a guy who isn't going to come in and compete to start right away...just sign another freshman or save the spot. But the talent not being out there is an altogether different thing than saying that type of talent isn't coming to Tennessee because a guy who isn't going to play pro football is currently the starter.

Trevor Lawrence was thinking as well. Nico can bulk up. Also, you are assuming we need the QB to run. I am not sold on that, especially when you have a guy that has the arm talent of Nico. I really like Hooker, beat let’s face facts, he doesn’t possess the arm talent of Nico.

Heupel's offense is much better when the threat of the QB run is there. The wide splits open up the middle of field and create those opportunities. And defenses trying to keep the QB from running at will open up the passing game.

Lawrence wasn't as thin as Nico and he wasn't in an offense in which the QB ran as much. Hell, even if Nico doesn't run much, he needs to get bigger or he'll get broken. He's not even 200 lbs. at 6-5. If Milton is as good as I think he'll be, there's no need to start Nico as a freshman.

Wish AP would not speculate so much. Calling Keith a flip before he’s even visited or been quoted speaking of his interest in UT. Saying he doesn’t see stallings in the class when there’s no evidence to the contrary.

Facts: Stallings is a physical beast and our only current rb commit when we need more than 1 due to our current depth.

Personally, was skeptical at first, but want him on the team, whatever position it’s at.

EDIT: apparently I did not see/remember that Keith came in for the UF game. So sorry to AP. And thanks @MarcoVol for pointing out. Still hope we keep stallings.

Maybe he knows a little more about those situations than you do, but he’s not at liberty to say

Small is very underrated.

Wright is just as big and even faster, but he's never been the dude eating practice reps and leading by example. Jabari has has done that for 2 off-seasons now and there's a level of trust there.

Jaylen Wright still hasn't found a comfortable grip on the ball.

Jabari is a good back that will gash Alabama this Saturday,,,
This used to be a Stalling thread

It’s not speculation on AP’s part.

You made a great case... for him being RB1 right now. I agree completely with that.

My point has been that the others have a higher ceiling if they can develop the kinds of skills he has.

I get that but I don’t see them even getting as many chances to be RB1 when the lights on (bc Small is proven) unless one of them makes incredible strides and is unstoppable in camp.

My current comparison model isn't Gibbs. It is Rodriguez. UK isn't good this year. Their OL is pretty terrible. Two games back and he has almost 200 yds and 4.8 ypc... while being his own blocker for the most part.

Rodriguez would be amazing in this O.
Jahmyr Gibbs is the best back in the country. Rodriguez isn’t close to him

This is based on Austin Price saying that he doesn't expect Stallings to end up in this class.
After seeing UGA. I wouldn't mind Heupel taking both Stallings and Keith. Perhaps use them like UGA uses their Te's? Line them up everywhere. Use them as blockers, catches and runners. We need more power in our fast/ explosive offense

I wouldn't mind him keeping both regardless. If we get into a situation like Saturday, where it's obvious that we're going to be throwing the ball, we need some guys that are a little more stout to take on pass rushers. You never know which one could be spectacular with daily competition to be the big RB.

Exactly. Don't care what his experience and current position is. You always play the more talented player. No offense to Small, but he's injured a lot and frankly, he's really no better than an average SEC backup RB not playing for UGA or bama. He'd be no better than 3rd team on those programs.
