Obama: “I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money…”

Umm, Buffet does pay more in taxes than his secretary. His point was his earnings are taxed at a lower rate than his secretary's earnings. As has been pointed out, it is a result of how he structured his company and very few people are in his boat.

Yes, you are correct, it's Buffet. sorry.
But thanks for proving my point for me. :)

Do you know any tax code whatsoever? If Buffet didn't specifically invest to avoid taxes and spend money purchasing tax credits, he'd pay an enormous percentage of his income in taxes.

i'd also love to know how his gates foundation donations are effecting that tax rate. most of the rich don't have enough money to give away 20%+ a year to charity. the fact is the WORKING rich in this country get royally screwed.

exactly. Those with wealth don't give a rip about the marginal tax rates, while those earning the high rates in an attempt to build wealth, see the marginal rates as enormously erosive and a huge disincentive to risky investment.

i assume you are refering to buffett and the only reason why buffett is paying a small % of taxes than his secretary is because a) his secretary is very well paid and b) buffett structures berkshire specifically to avoid taxes. so basically the biggest tax cheat in the country is arguing he doesn't pay enough taxes. brilliant.

And here I thought Buffet's ability to make a lot of money and strucutre it in a way to minimize his tax liability would be admired by some on here.

It is, but it first change the disingenuous nature of his comment. He damn well knows the reality.

“…but you know, part of the American way is, you can just keep on making it if you're providing a good product.” (If you’ve heard the quote, it sounds like he has to admit the last part of the quote begrudgingly or it hit him as to what he just said and it's an attempt to recover.)

So was this an off-teleprompter slip of the tongue, or was it an initial shot across the bow?

(Disclaimer: I figured this would have been brought up before now, so if it has and I have missed it I fully apologize!)
funny that john mcCain has said the same thing in the past, but don't let that get in the way of your obama bashing

Interesting timing after our conversation on j&j last week, huge recall on childrens liquid Tylenol and the FDA slammed the shape of the facility.

I bet he'll get an even bigger bonus for having to make 'tough product and facility improvements.'
