Obama: “I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money…”

Agreed and understood. I guess when you boil it down; my question is to whom do you believe a CEO owes his/her fiduciary duty, the employees or the stockholders?

I personally believe his/her greatest responsibility is increasing stockholder wealth. Granted, that is a more general and simplistic viewpoint and many of the things you mentioned contribute to this. But if the stock value is rising, especially above projections, I believe he should be rewarded.

That last question does beg the question as to how the stock is performing vs. projections…

Well their main priority nowadays is definitely the stockholders to make sure they can stay innovative and competitive etc.

That's not a bad thing, but there should be a balance.

Balance? Most likely that best serving all stakeholders results in the best and most lasting stock valuation. Screwing any will eventually hurt.

Well don't you think sometimes it's a you can't have your cake and eat it too scenario?

Meaning sometimes doing whats best for share holders may hurt customers?

So I think there is a balance.

I think part of the reason this thread was created so "late", as the original poster somewhat stated, is because this really isn't that shocking coming from him. That speaks volumes about where most people feel he is coming from.

“…but you know, part of the American way is, you can just keep on making it if you're providing a good product.” (If you’ve heard the quote, it sounds like he has to admit the last part of the quote begrudgingly or it hit him as to what he just said and it's an attempt to recover.)

So was this an off-teleprompter slip of the tongue, or was it an initial shot across the bow?

(Disclaimer: I figured this would have been brought up before now, so if it has and I have missed it I fully apologize!)

Maybe Barry is talking about his pal and big supporter George Soros.

As Matthew Vadum writes, “The liberal billionaire-turned-philanthropist has been buying up media properties for years in order to drive home his message to the American public that they are too materialistic, too wasteful, too selfish, and too stupid to decide for themselves how to run their own lives.”

Barack Hussein Obama meant just exactly what he said in your quote.

Here is an Obama quote from during his presidential campaign in Oregon in May of 2008:

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK,"

I work for a fortune 100 and the CEO in 08 made a move that hurt eps and helped customers and we have reaped benefits from it.

That means my answer was correct. Eventually, helping customers helps share price, while screwing them catches up with share price in the end. CEOs with a shirt term view of share price eventually get creamed.

Uh, yes we can. We (as a country) have earned that right Barry.

But it's funny too, they are tipping their hand and expect to win, now if we folded and let them win, that would be sad.

You didn't get the memo??

Rights are determined by the state, not earned, apply at your nearest train station, the project is shovel ready, bring your own shovel. BYOS!

He was out on the road playing with some band and Roger was staying at the same hotel and found out he was there and so payed him a visit.

The was a knock at the door and it was Roger and he said; "Rog, come on in," and he did and walked over to the thermostat and looked at it for about two minutes, wheeled around and said; "Joe, I've lost ten pounds, let's go eat supper."
