Obama "I deserve another term"

I voted for Obama because I couldn't stomach McCain for a variety of reasons and didn't want to waste my vote on a 3rd party candidate. I know a lot of moderates and independents who did the same. I'm not making that same choice again. In 2008, 3rd party candidates received just over 1.5% of the popular vote and as long as that is the case, then the major parties can continue to ignore anyone who is not either a D or an R. What would happen if that percentage went up to 10%? It wouldn't necessarily change the outcome of the election, but it would get some attention.

How is it waste to vote for your principles?

Waste would be voting against someone

and if you continue to vote for whomever they warm up and serve to you then I'm not sure you deserve any better

Romney won't get my vote in the primary. Honestly, I'm not 100% sure I'm going to bother voting in the primary. I'm not happy with the GOP right now. That said, voting 3rd party won't mean anything, and this election is too important for me to go with a symbolic vote.

Obama deserves reelection like Keanu Reeves deserves an Oscar.

like Perot?

only way to change it is to get a winner

No, it's to get a third party candidate with a significant enough following to get in the debate. The candidate who can get 5% of the popular vote in the national election gets guaranteed federal campaign finance, yet the presidential debate commission (run by the Democratic and Republican parties) stipulate that a third party candidate must be polling at 15% nationally to get in the presidential debates. The DNC and GOP have essentially ensured the exclusion of third party candidates.

Wont mean anything, symbolic. This thought process is precisely why we are in the current state of govt.

It's probably worth pointing out that countries with 3 or more parties don't necessarily do any better than the US. See the UK for a great example.

If third parties weren't systematically shut out of nearly all major elections, I think you'd see a sizable turnover of supporters to the libertarian party from the republicans, and in a different time, democrats switching over to the greens.

why would you infer that from my statement?

Your statement :

MG1968 Obama deserves reelection like Keanu Reeves deserves an Oscar

That suggest Obama does not deserve to be reelected.

If Obama does not deserve to be reelected, do you think Romney deserves to be elected ?

Anybody with enough ego and guts to run and win deserves the position . . . At least for a minute or two.

nobody "deserves" to be elected

"deserve" carries with it the implication that something you've done warrants something in return

Obama is a failure and Romney is a typical Massachusetts politician.
