Obama switching positions.

Nice. And I agree. But he is also a flip flopper. See Gitmo.

He is continuing the proud legacy, but there isn't a Republican or Democrat in DC that isn't always guilty all the time of saying one thing then doing another thing

Complaining about Obama being guilty of that then going out and supporting Romney is kind of disingenuous

Completely agree. So I will choose to vote for neither.

If Obama goes out in a debate and promises to ratify a repeal of the defense of marriage act and make it policy to push for marriage equality, that could amount to an important edge.

. . . and then the Easter Bunny will ride a unicorn into the debate hall and whisk the President away.

.. And out of office?

And that was in the context of getting the edge back in youth vote. I know a whole, whole lot of people in their early 20's that are absolutely lethargic about any and all public events and politics, with the sole exception of gay marriage. I could create a facebook event like some march to promote gay marriage and easily have thousands RSVP in weeks.

Same goes for an election. Huge amounts of 18-24 year olds don't usually vote, but if it gets out that 'guy a wants to legalize gay marriage' and 'guy b is against legalizing gay marriage' then people in that age group would show up to vote for guy a by the metric **** ton.

GOProud's Chris Barron reacts to Barack Obama's late and somewhat tepid support for marriage equality:*

"It is good to see that after intense political pressure that President Obama has finally come around to the Dick Cheney position onmarriage equality. I am sure, however, the President’s newly discovered support for marriage is cold comfort to the gay couples in North Carolina.**The President waited until after North Carolina passed a constitutional amendment banningsame-sex marriage."*

"This is hardly a profile in courage by President Obama.**For years now, President Obama has tried his hardest to have it both ways on this issue.*

"The real kudos here goes to LGBT activists and their allies who finally forced the President into yielding on this issue."

We get this every 4 years . . . Then the totals come in and turnout for 18-24 year olds lags about 15 points behind 24+.

I suspect there's an obvious regional thing going on here too. What jacks up voters in Oregon socially registers as "you gotta be kidding me" in this neck of the woods.

That neck of the woods will also undoubtedly vote for romney as well. The youth vote in most of the swing states is much closer in identity to oregon than to georgia.

He actually came full circle, he answered in a questionnaire when he was running for state senate that he thought gay marriage should be legal, then when running for President he changed his position and now he changes again. So who knows where he really stands on this issue. He also said yesterday it should be a state issue.

All absurd.

Not a soul who will vote against Obama based on this issue was ever going to vote for him, anyway.

No one who would base their vote on pro-gay rights (or privileges, however you want to look at it) was ever going to vote for Romney.

Of all the issues out there, this has the LEAST effect of any of them.

I saw the interview. on GMA. this morning .
This position is pandering. to the libs.
He said he personally is far same sex marriage but it should be left to states to decide. His wording was local government.
No indication that he would try to change law.

This was a chance for Romney. to. come on strong to his base but as usual he stumbled.
He said he "has been for marriage. to be between a man and a woman since....well since I have been running for office"

What was his position before running for office.?

It will remain a state issue for the POTUS until after the election.

Romney was against gay marriage while he was Governor of Massachusetts; gay marriage in Massachusetts was ruled as permissible by a court order, not through anything that Romney signed into law.

However, I tend to think that whichever individual is in office starting next January, they will look to ensure that the same benefits and protections are provided to homosexual partners that are provided to heterosexual partners. I imagine that if pressed on the issue, Romney would state that Civil Unions should be recognized by the state and that the only difference between Civil Unions and Marriage will be one of semantics.

Do you think the far left is satisfied with his stance? I would guess they are not ok with it since he stated it should be left up to the states. I think they want it to be a federal issue.

The quote from above saying Obama finally came around to Dick Cheney's view on the issue is priceless.

I love how when Mitt Romney changes his stance, he's a flip flopper. When the President changes his views he's "evolving" and being brave.
