The quote from above saying Obama finally came around to Dick Cheney's view on the issue is priceless.

golden opportunity for a GOP ad campaign (nothing serious, more poking fun) showing just how similar Obama's administration is to Bush/Cheney.

They're so similar they have the same stance on gay marriage!

I'm sure he's talking about the vote in North Carolina.

You would be correct. On another note, do you think Obama is avoiding making this a civil rights debate because he doesn't want to anger the black population by putting the two on the same level?

They didn't take anything away - because that "right" wasn't ever there to begin with.

Also, marriage is not a natural right.

This is purely throwing red meat at his base and young voters. There's no legislation behind it, so really it's just empty words.

IMO, it does more harm than good with the base. See Gawker's "Bull****" headline

I misspoke. So would you have issue if a state banned heterosexuals from forming anykind of union?

My opinion doesn't change the fact that civil unions, domestic partnerships, marriage, etc are not "rights"

That's why I said I misspoke. But i do feel that homosexuals should have the right to the same privileges that heterosexuals do.

I think now that he has come out and said he is for it, BO has to make it a campaign issue or his base may see him as a paper tiger. Will be fun to watch.

We will see if/how it affects his support within the minority groups. Most of them are largely anti-gay marriage.
