Who wins a general election between these two? I don't think the country is ready for another Republican President.

maybe not but they also need to realize what they're putting in the WH instead.

doesn't matter- the only difference between the two is their current stance on the war on terror. you are basically picking between two branches on the same tree and deciding who will tie up their party's nomination as the incumbent in 4-years.

i think obama wins unfortunately. altho i'm not sure how much better mccain would be. looks like we'll have an option of 2 pieces of crap

I voted McCain, the idea of sitting a mere puppy in the head office worries me a little.

Lets be sure to not vote against someone but rather for someone...if that makes sense to yall.

You are voting for two hard core liberals either way. McCain's voting record is in line with Ted Kennedy. Obama does not really have a track record yet, but his talk is certainly way left.
Just remember though- whoever wins will be the incumbent in four-years- so that party's choice will not change.

So, Kennedy got a 65% conservative voting ranking from the American Conservative Union, like McCain? The talk about McCain being more liberal than Hillary or in line with Kennedy is a bit silly, IMO.

it's not silly, it's just plain lost.

Hillary's true colors and Obama's public persona make Chairman Mao look relatively conservative.

Either will be better than the Bush Administration.

can we agree that either way the nxt 4 yrs maybe 8 don't look to good
I don't think McCain would rejigger the Court to mid 70s liberalism. So a victory for either side is a problem, but a Democratic victory is ugly from the legal side of the world.

highly debatable, but one thing's for sure: they cannot spend any more money than this administration has. They might send the cash in a different direction, but the amount will not grow, unless this Universal Health Care initiative grows to full blown debacle-hood. Then, the sky's the limit on spending.

Hard to do when both choices $uck. McCain is a liberal trying to wear conservative clothes. Obama is a socialist trying to wear moderate clothes. Both are bad choices. Obama is worse - nataional HC (let's please don't ruin our healthcare system), weak on terrorism, handouts to every TDandH imaginable, inexperienced - no way can I vote for him. McCain's a Lib too, but at least we can hope he won't let our defenses down in fighting terrorism. Of course, the biggest risk with McCain is that he can't be trusted at all. There's really no telling where he might compromise and sell out to the Dems. Bottom line, we'll be getting a big fat Lib either way.

Not even close.

When he's sponsored bills with Kennedy, how can you not say that's close? And Feingold... I think maybe conservatives would feel a lot better if he was as happy to work witht hem as he is those liberals.

Those are 2 bills - out of the thousands of issues he's recorded votes on.

Check his record and you'll see great divergence between him and Kennedy.

They are not even close (as the political spectrum goes).

That's like saying Obama is more of a liberal than Hillary... still pretty bad either way.

Let's use this example. HC and Obama are very close on the political spectrum. Both of them are close to Kennedy as well.

On the otherhand, McCain is on the other side of the spectrum - he's not the most conservative guy out there but he's certainly right of center where as all three of the Dems mentioned above are left of center with Kennedy being the furthest.

That said, it's clear that McCain and Kennedy are not close.

Let's see... votes for tax increases, against tax cuts, wants amnesty, tries to limit free speech,
tries to block conservative judges, Keating 5, Gang of 12, etc.. While he may not be Kennedy, he's not far behind.

Didn't Mr. McCain try to leave the Republican party a couple of times? I'm not really for sure, that is what has been told to me. Does anyone know anything about this? TIA

There was a story saying he was being courted by some dems to switch parties, but he denies it. And of course Kerry was trying to get him to consider being his VP back in '04.
