page 1239 of the health care bill that President Obama recently signed into law. It requires employers to provide "a place, other than a bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from co-workers and the public, which may be used by an employee to express breast milk." Only companies with less than 50 employees can claim it's an undue hardship.

Seems like a bit of a waste when you can buy a cover for less than $20. My wife uses one all the time. Most people don't even know she's nursing the kid because it looks like she's wearing a shawl or scarf.

who's bringing their kid to work anyway? we really need to allocate valuable office space for people who pump at work?

How many moms nurse at work? They might want a room to pump but nursing would imply that junior is coming to the office.

From the article:

Nursing mothers will now get additional support, thanks to page 1239 of the health care bill that President Obama recently signed into law. It requires employers to provide "a place, other than a bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from co-workers and the public, which may be used by an employee to express breast milk." It looks like it can be any private place other than a bathroom and small business won't have to do it at all.

Seems fairly innocuous. What's the complaint?

Is this really the type of thing we need government poking its nose into? The complaint comes when small businesses are forced to designate a room for one purpose.

It would be no different if the government forced you to provide a private space so your employees could pleasure themselves to posters of Tim Tebow.........oh wait, you probably already have one of those.

I'd need to read the exact requirements in the bill, but on first blush it appears to mandate a nonproductive use of space for a problem that is trivial and unlikely to be even an issue in most businesses.

Future headline:

Woman sues Truett Cathy and Chick-Fil-A for failing to fully comply with new law requiring a place "free from intrusion" to express breast milk. The store manager, where she is employed, offered his office (the only room other than restrooms in the building) for her to use and another employee inadvertly walked in on her while she was using a breast pump. Since Chick-Fil-A owns the majority of its locations, it does not meet the small business exemption of 50 employees or less.
