Obama's Speech

I doubt that, Obama supporters are some of the most obnoxious people I've met in a long time. They're worse than professional panhandlers, Amway salesman, and jehovah's witnesses combined.

I take offense to that. There is no way I am worse than a Jehovahs Witness

All I meant was hope in the political system. I didnt mean hope for the human race.

Look I know it is politics. I know that you would have to be a Gullible Idealist to believe he is going to do everything he says he will, but let me say this.

Over the last couple years I have seen my Grandmother struggle to pay her electric bills, and Precriptions.

I have seen my three of my neighbors loose their houses because their payments skyrocketed on them.

I have struggled at times to keep gas in my car.

I have seen proud people have to go to Food Pantries just to have enough to eat.

It might be fine where you guys live but where I live people are really struggling.

All I wanted to say about last night was I feel that Barack can put the nation back on the right track and that does give me hope.

Barack isnt the Messiah. I never said he was. But we are a goverment of the people and I am sorry that Barack is one of those people that makes me think that America can get back on the right track.

Do you give no blame to the Congress? Let's face it the President cannot pass legislation only Congress can do that and you know the Dems are in charge of the House and Senate right?

none of those "problems" were apparent before 2006 when the democrats took control of both houses of Congress.

George W. Bush signed a massive prescription drug bill into law. I know that medicines are expensive, but it really isn't the government's responsibility to make sure they're affordable. What the government can do is ease the tax and regulatory burdens on Pharmaceutical companies. If the cost of doing business goes down, the price the consumer pays will go down as well.

I've struggled with gas prices too, but I still prefer a free market solution to the problem.

Your neighbors who lost their houses should have read the fine print on their contract, they also should have been better qualified to buy a home. One of the big causes of the mortgage crisis is all the mortgages extended to unqualified buyers in the interest of "fairness."

I like to come over to this forum because it's a lot different than other politic forums I visit, and I like to hear all view points. However, there is no reason to attack a guy and resort to name-calling because he post about enjoying and being uplifted by a speech. Just because someone doesn't agree with your views doesn't make them a brainless idiot or a pathetic SOB. Remeber political views are subjective and a case can be made against both liberalism and conservatism.

but there is no doubt that someone ascribing their personal hope to the speech of a freaking two-bit politician deserves some biting comments.

Look guys I know you are giving me the Republican talking points and I could turn around and give you the Democratic ones.

I could say that when the Dams took back congress that the Minimal Wage finally got raised.

I could say that the Dems tried to pass a bill to insure more kids but Bush kept vetoing it.

I could say that the Dems still dont have a big enough majority to stop Repubican Filibusters, and Bush Vetos but that will soon change.

The Dems will have complete control of the Congress and possibly the White House come November.

minimum wage is one of the reasons why so many jobs have gone overseas.

the schip bill is poorly written and deserved to be vetoed. when you have people earning 200k/year and sending their kids to private school and the democrats trot them out as an example of who their legislation will help, you have a problem.

if Obama is elected and the dems increase their majorities in the House and Senate, within 4 years the United States will be indistinguishable from the socialist democracies of Europe. If that's what you truly want, then please emigrate to Europe.

I disagree. I thought the guy was sying he felt uplifted by the speech and excited about the direction the country may possibly be heading. You can debate whether it would be the right direction, but I don't think it deserves criticism.

It seems petty to end a friendship over differing political views. I have good friends that are die-hard conservatives, die-hard liberals, and everywhere in between.

I've been called a racist, homophobe and a misogynist by my former liberal friends. Terms like that have a way of ending a friendship. I was always open to their points of view, yet they never reciprocated the courtesy.

Yeah, but you don't necessarily expect to be attacked either.

that wasn't an attack. Wait til UT loses a game and see how bad that is :p

You can't post non-specifics about a speech filled with non-specifics and expect people (especially around here) not to challenge them. And when it concerns peoples lives/livelihood there is always some passion.

That my friend is the way of the lib. Freedom of speech means they can say what they want but you cannot. Hence the push from Nancy P and Harry R for the so called "fairness Doctrine".

I must warn you. Having conversations with conservatives can have grave consequences. Next thing you know you will start to think instead of feel and then before you know it you will start to think that the power is with the people not the government and then you are a mere stones throw from being a fellow conservative. :p
