OC and game Planning

I do also think some of this is scheme. We have decent speed, and where was our frosh 5* WR last night...we could have run that same pass play in the flats that OSU ran on us all last night...but we never go there...need more motion/mis-direction, imo.
Our qb can’t hit that pass with any consistency

Since Alex Golesh left our Offense has not looked or performed anywhere near the same level as it once did. While some of that is personnel (or lack of) it’s clear that the scheme and tempo is nowhere near the same.

JMO but if we had the aggressive, uptempo playcalling back, last night is a totally different outcome or at least much closer.

I personally think we need to move on from our current OC. The gameplay we showed up with last night speaks for itself.
I have said this many many times. Our offense is stagnant. We have run the same 8 or so plays for 4 years except we are running them at a much slower pace. Talent of the offensive side is some better, but we have not added anything to confuse the defense. Our offensive line is a BUST and we are small and slow at the linebacker and safety positions. Our out side rushers are not strong enough to get past the opponents offensive line. We leave the middle of the field open for both the run and the pass. Some of this is coaching and some is lack of talent. We need an upgrade in both areas. I do believe we are improving our talent in our new signees, but we still need to greatly improve our offensive of the ball starting with the offensive line. In both talent and coaching. If we improve the talent, we have to coach them and play them ASAP.

Same argument for Milton. There are lies, damn lies, and statistics. It’s the eye test man. He just doesn’t have the quickness to be a winning qb. Like heath shuler, jg, Milton Just a tic slow to read and react. Can’t coach that

That stat represents the eye test. It is the eye test quantified.

These guys watch and re-watch every play from different angles, see who is actually open and who isn't, and then record their evaluations and aggregate them. Make no mistake, they are imperfect and subject to bias, but so are you, and I know you're not watching, re-watching, and grading and aggregating all that. You're relying on the plays you remember and the feelings you have.

The good news is you don't have to be a pessimist. You can just accept that he has been good for a freshman behind bad pass blocking. You can just accept the fact that players generally get better after their freshman years, JFC.

Who exactly are “ these guys”. I’m relying on 50+ years of being a Tennessee Volunteer fan, and seeing the good, the bad,and the ugly. All this analytical stuff that espn and others harp on, never tell the entire story. Sadly the kid ain’t good or quick enough to be a winning franchise qb. Doesn’t matter if he’s a freshman or 6 yr senior. He just doesn’t have IT

They are people who get paid to watch tape.

McShay had him as the 3rd best QB in the playoff and he's watching the same games you are.

I understand the inclination to trust yourself over them. That's fine. If you were to say, "I don't think he's as good as everyone is saying." that would be totally reasonable. But the degree of disagreement is the problem here. You're saying he doesn't have "it" entirely. LOL. It's not, "I don't think he's going to be a Heisman finalist type." It's "he's a bust." Jonathan Crompton is a bust. That's what a bust looks like.

Since when do busts start their careers 11-3? You're out of control.

I’ve spent most of my 60 years being out of control, but that doesn’t make me wrong

All I saw last nit was the same old players we have seen all year which were successful only against the pushovers on our schedule. I saw nothing new, no motion, no running to the weak side, no pass blocking no picking up blitzes.etc. I realize we won 10 games this year and we beat Florida and Alabama, but we had to fight for our lives against many of our wins against mid SEC teams. Winter and Spring workout had better be intense and serious. Maybe younger talent will be more willing to put forth the effort needed to improve.

My guess is you never started at any point of your sports career going back to pee wee, because you seem to have a knack for dumping on ex-players. There is no value in it unless it makes you feel good. Milton is gone yet you continue to talk bad about the guy.

It’s the scheme. I didn’t see one player put in motion last night to try to create one on ones. No eye candy at all, and defenses only have to prepare for about 5 pass plays. Offense has sucked since Golesh left.

Ohio State will likely win the national championship this year. They’ve always had elite talent. The difference this year is the addition of Chip Kelley. Ryan Day was smart enough to humble himself and bring in one of the best minds in football.

From everything I’ve seen, Golesh was a great complement to Heupel and he earned his trust. Heupel has to know that the status quo isn’t going to get it done. If this program is going to take the next step; he will have to move away from Halzle.

Heupel is 36-13 after walking into a dumpster fire
And has bought the best portal guys he could. The ones he didn’t portal in, he paid to stay. Don’t let yourself be lulled into thinking Heupel’s rebuilt this team the way coaches had to do it just a few short seasons ago. His coaches have very very few starters that were signed out of HS. This current team was probably making $15-$20M.
Coaches previously couldn’t just buy a player to plug in where a shortage / talent gap existed. Not even close to rebuilding 4 years ago.
