Off-season Injuries

So, like I said previously, I have no idea what CHW might be thinking about doing with the Lady Vol offense. But, how about some of you great basketball minds kick around some ideas of what you think would be the best system for the LVs to run considering the personnel we have and their individual skill sets.

I am going to hold on to a little bit of optimism..... I have no idea what it might be, but I have heard more than once, CHW say she is doing a lot of film study because she is wanting to do some things very differently this year.
Now when she said that was she talking offensively or defensively or both? Specifics would be great but my guess is she doesn't want to let the rest of WCBB in on her secret before the season starts. We do know however the change will not involve Coach Jumper no matter how hard he tries.

I'm 99.3 percent sure she was meaning Offense!! But like I mentioned nothing definite.

I'm pretty sure she was referring to offense as well. Our defense was SOMEWHAT solid, I don't see anything "different" she could do with the defense....offense on the other hand!

All we need is motion, move without the ball ladies!!! We've seen glimpses of how this team could operate if they move, cut, screen with purpose, and hit open shots. Whatever Holly comes up with, I hope it works this season. I'm tired of not getting to the FF!

I'm hoping this team can stay 100% healthy the entire season....I'm wondering if they're going to announce Cooper's redshirt soon. I'm not exactly sure how that works.

Good point on that... players are back on campus correct? I would think they would announce it soon if it is going to happen. Is that decision up to the player? By decision I mean the nature of the announcement.

I found it kinda odd that they didn't announce the redshirt at the time they stated she would miss the entire season. I know at the time Holly really didn't know too much or either couldn't release as much information to us. The players normally control what health information they would like to be released but like I said I really don't know exactly how the process works.

I guess time will tell.

where did holly warlick say she has been doing film study to do things different this year.

I don't know where she said that but here's what I would do differently.

(This is partly a joke). I would start Jackson at point guard Middleton at shooting guard Nared and Reynolds at the wings and Dunbar at Center.

I would play a 5 out on offense and post up either Reynolds or Nared whoever had the smaller defender. I would press all over the place on defense and keep Dunbar back in the post on defense.

This lineup would eliminate Holly's inside-out offense, Diamond's turnovers, eliminate the opponent from triple-teaming Russell in the post, and force the opponent's center to chase Dunbar out to the three point line and open up the paint for the bigger guards to post up the smaller guards. Middleton and Dunbar Would rain down threes while Reynolds and Nared posted up and scored at will and Jackson ran around all over the place making steals on defense. The team would go undefeated!

Now remember this is a joke. Partly.

It already has.

The coaching staff knows of me.
The players know of me.
The administration knows of me.
The VolNation know of me.
The media knows of me.
I have been asked for by one player as a summer coach....And worked out with another player (who wanted to continue)...

Can't be much more involved than that in 8 months.

The only people who help a program are the coaches and players. It is very obvious that we need a dynamic, smart new coach. Hiring Holly was not a wise decision.

Wasn't it?

No coach can be proficient in all areas of coaching. That is why they have staff. That is why they look for the best in their respective markets to build there org.

When you look at a program, be it, business or sport, you break it down and see where the strength is and the weakness is... Then you hone the things that are working and repair the things deficient.

There are many things great about this team... It's present player-makeup, its history, its status, its "draw" for top athletes. The fanbase is ardent and involved. The coaches in place have traveled most of the history with it.

But
Two things I have heard consistently on this site:
  1. Lack of offense. Particularly with regards to smart and timely movement
  2. Skill set of the players not progressing (maybe even regressing)

Both are fixable.
But for it to happen, the right mechanic has to be involved.

Are you suggesting that the "right mechanic" is not presently on the LV staff ?
If the "right mechanic" is not on the staff, do you know where we can find one ?

This deep into the campaign,. I expect the "right mechanic" to be on staff right now...

If not,

I have all the confidence that they will get the right one.

The more I read about injuries and the short possible bench, not even considering the coaching question marks, we might have a Lady Vol season like no other we have see in the past 30 plus years. One bad recruiting year and a team can easily move to the back of the bus. I just hope that if the Lady Vols decide to make a coaching move that they make a move which has the chance of putting the Lady Vols back at the top of the food chain.
