Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Thread

Post shows not only a lack of any semblance tact, but also a complete lack of knowledge on both the rules of international team eligibility and Belgian history.
So it's all good to use your former slaves from the Congo if they can kick a ball hard but any commentary there on is verboten? Thank you Uncle Adolf for your opinion.

How anyone watches basketball baffles me. Most people tuned in to the Finals this year just to watch LeBron lose.

It's funny how people will put aside some racism if it aids their sports team. Not a foreign concept for this nation.

You're digging a deeper hole here. Nobody was claiming there were former slaves playing for Belgium. You are aware that a player is eligible to play for a nation if he, one parent, or one grandparent were born in that nation or one of its territories, right? With that in mind, it's not too tough to figure out why there are guys who look like they're from Central Africa playing for Belgium.

What's the difference between what Belgium pays one such player and a central African nation? Buy a black player and I call it slavery. Parse words if you want. Bought and paid for is just that.

Why are you incapable of understanding that none of the guys who play for Belgium were actually born in Central Africa or were ever "slaves" in any sense of the word? I'm going to assume the guy you were referring to was Romelu Lukaku, but he was born in Antwerp, and has a father that is from Zaire. It's not like the Belgian FA kidnapped him from The Congo as a child and forced him into their servitude.

It's called a joke. Lighten up Francis.

P.S. Soccer still ranks below baseball in the US
Not today's generation of a go go mentality. I think you see baseball below soccer in ten years

Soccer takes 2 hours and people stay for PKs. Baseball takes 4+ and play in front of less people as the innings continue.

Wow this thread went downhill fast. I will continue to watch the World Cup even though we lost. Start a different thread if you want to whine about soccer in general.

Bradley is horrible. Just the truth.

False. He didn't have a great tournament but he's still the best midfielder we have when he's playing at his natural position. He was asked to do a lot. I'm not sure if it was too much for him or not, but the breaks didn't go his way. Doesn't mean he's a terrible player.

You haven't played, or if you have, you sucked at it. If you had, you would realize the beauty of the game.

You are missing the point when it comes to soccer. The beauty of it is in the playing.

I never played organized soccer and I still love it . You don't have to be sophisticated or smart to understand the strategies and the eb and flow of the action.

He also made some beautiful distributions, which the forwards managed to screw up. Here's what we should be talking about - how to cross the ball. I saw soooo many lead-footed crosses that missed anyone in relevant positions it was pathetic. There were multiple opportunities to land the ball on someone's forehead and the result would have been goal.

I think this is true, but it's hard to love a sport like soccer, or golf for that matter, unless you've played.

My semifinal matchups are Colombia-Germany and Argentina-Netherlands. I actually was not that impressed with Belgium today. Their defense is awful.

lol when people compare soccer with socialism.

Of course if you don't know the players, the strategy, the teams, ect, your going to think it's boring. But if you understand the sport, follow a team, follow the league, it's great. When you have a team and understand the strategy and players on your team, it's just like any other sport. The only reason football is the best sport in America is because of the excitement and impact level of an only 12 game season or 16 game season in which 1 game can really make or break your season. The magnitude matters more than the actual sport. If you had a baseball season with 12 games only, you'd hold your breathe on every pitch.
