Cape Cod Buzz: Piliere’s Early Impressions

snippet of an article written by Frankie Piliere from D1 Baseball on the Cape:

• We’ve known for some time now that Kyle Serrano (Tennessee) was sitting on a world of talent, but we’ve also waited for all that talent to come to fruition. We may be seeing that happening before our eyes in the early part of the Cape Cod League season. Although a third pitch is something we’ll need to see from the 6-foot-3 righty, his one-two punch of fastball and slider look pretty devastating right now. Serrano cruised in his first start against Y-D mostly on the strength of his heavy, sinking 92-94 mph fastball and he carried this velocity through the outing. Serrano did get under a few of his sliders, but for the most part he was able to locate his 81-84 mph breaker very effectively. Most impressively, he was able to front-door that slider on righties either before or after he buried a running fastball under their hands. This was a superb first step toward Serrano becoming the type of dominant force and groundball machine that many scouts suspect he can be.

since Kyle was not allowed by his father to throw a curve ball until late in his teens, it's no surprise that he is a pitch or two short. Nice thing for Kyle is that he will likely never need Tommy John as a result. It does likely make him a late-bloomer, but when he blooms, look out!

Solid Battery Fuels Second Straight Win - Morehead City Marlins

...The reliever from the University of Louisiana Monroe recorded two quick outs setting the stage for a four-out save from Zach Reid (Tennessee), earning his second save on the season as he continues to get more polished in that late-inning role.

"I feel 100-percent confident in that role," Reid said. "I like being in that role. I just know that anytime the game is on the line, the coach has trust in me and that helps me out on the mound."

Hall comes in the game as a PH in the 5th...he gets a lead off single in the B8th, Miners trailing 5-1...

Hall went 1/2...Miners lose 5-1, some bad errors for the Miners tonight, uncharacteristic and a home loss...all their losses are at home, undefeated on the road...weird so far.

Leftridge leads off B10, put out 5-3, 1 away...Bucs down in order...T11, 3-3 score

Brodie lays down a sac bunt to move the runner to 3B...2 outs...nope, strand him, T13, 3-3
