The Smoky Mountain League is new, based in Tennessee. They play games in the area, Knoxville Catholic HS, Sevier Co. HS, Seymour HS, Jefferson Co. HS and the league championship will be at Smokies Park.

Started by the HC at Carson Newman...

It will be interesting to see if this league will take off.

Hmm...Sam Springer is not listed in the UT release. In the past, that has meant they don't return.

There were 72 picks in the first two rounds of the MLB draft...28 of those picks played at some point in the Cape Cod League.

I know the Cape Cod is obvious , Best Summer League, but how would you rank the other leagues our UT guys are playing in?

1 Cape

2A Coastal

2B Northwoods

Then the rest are pretty similar. I would put Smokey Mountain last, just because it's new, won't play nearly as many games as some of the others.

Alaska would be 2, pushing the Coastal and Northwoods down...

One could make an argument for the Northwoods to be 2 because it's as much like minor league baseball in that they play every day, hardly any days off.

I think it's a much better league then it was a few years ago when guys like Vincent Jackson went there.

From a talent perspective, the best want to be in the Cape, that won't change.

I am unfamiliar with the Prospect League...based on rosters, lots of regional type schools, a handful of P5 players, whole lot of JUCO's...I would place it around the New England, Valley type leagues based on rosters alone.

New England is way better than the prospect league

Doesn’t Cape Cod primarily takes upcoming juniors and seniors. They don’t usually take kids that are upcoming sophomores, having just finished their freshman year, correct?

They almost never take seniors

They take a lot of rising juniors because that's who the scouts want to see. I think I posted the number in the draft thread, but it was like 28 former Cape players drafted in the first 2 rounds.

Every player taken in the first two rounds was a current Jr. or a HS player...I bet almost all, if not all, of those 28 played in the cape last summer as rising juniors.

A little nugget. The Coastal is streaming some games this season and in order to see the stream you have to log in. No fee or anything.

If you were a member to their old radio stream, you can use the same log in from before.

It's a decent stream, camera is far back from the screen, but they get the whole field in the shot.

To make a long story short, I went through the process of signing up again before it told me there was already an account under the e-mail addy.

So, anyway...the sign up is easy, but if you were already in the system you're good.
