So, someone asked about how I would rate the leagues and at that time I was busy and didn't have time to get into besides the basics.
From a scouting perspective I think that answer pretty much sums it up.
However, following these guys for several summers now, I rate them on a fan level too.
The Cape is where all the talent is, and it's where you want our kids to go. From a fan's perspective, the streams are low quality, the announcers and the technology they use to broadcast range across the league from ok to bad...
That's just one example.
It is a load of you know what, to charge people to watch these streams. OTOH, some of these leagues don't stream, the links they provide for audio on their websites don't work, if they have neither then they should update games on twitter or FB...but some teams just don't.
I'm just a college baseball fan and if I can't see one of our players play all summer, well there are plenty of others and not enough time. But...if I was a parent, and I've talked to some over the years, not just from Tennessee, but from other SEC schools, as well as wives of coaches...
The level of frustration folks go through to keep up is really silly at this point from a technology standpoint.
Then there's the stats. Some use Pointstreak, some use their own system, like in California.
The Northwoods League is the only League where I would pay. They are on another level. But I'm not going to pay when I can get the audio for free.
Right now the Coastal has taken a LARGE leap from where they have been the last few years, and it's free.
The Cape doesn't start for another week or so, maybe things will be better this season, but I expect not. Still, at least they stream the games, even if you have to figure who the home team is to watch...Sometimes, like when we have someone with Orleans, I may just listen, rather than watch...Same in Alaska.
There is no better pair of announcers in all of summer ball than the two guys from The Glacier Pilots. I don't think we've had a player on that team since Jeff Moberg...but when Matsu or the Bucs play the Pilots, the video is off and the audio is on. I'm going to miss them this summer.
Everybody else is everybody else. That includes the Cal Ripken League and host of others, Great Lakes comes to mind...
Anyway, just a bit of a different answer.
GBO!!!
