KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Nineteen Vols across the country are heating up both in the box and on the mound as they continue through the summer campaign, as regular season games start to dwindle and it gets into crunch time.
The second summer ball update of the year can be found below.
Appalachian League
OF Kyle Booker – Kingsport Axmen
Season Stats: 13 GP, .326 AVG, 14 R, 14 H, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 9 BB, 3 SB, .442 OBP, .435 SLG
Had three hits, three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases in the last four days.
INF/OF Ethan Payne – Johnson City Doughboys
Season Stats: 17 GP, .173 AVG, 10 R, 9 H, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 14 BB, 1 SB, .397 OBP, .250 SLG
Scored a pair of runs over the weekend against Bluefield.
Cape Cod League
LHP Wyatt Evans – Chatham Anglers

Had a massive week, going 6-for-13 with a home run, coming on July 9, and seven RBIs. Broke out against Walnut Creek on July 8, posting a 4-for-5 day with four driven in. Also added three stolen bases against the Lincoln Potters in his most recent game, played on Sunday.
Ranks third on the team in average, fourth in slugging and fifth in on-base percentage.
RHP Hollis Fanning – Walnut Creek Crawdads
Season Stats: 6 APP, 3 GS, 1-1, 0 SV, 3.22 ERA, 30.2 IP, 13 R, 11 ER, 30 H, 3 BB, 19 K, 1.08 WHIP
Put together another very strong start Saturday (7/9) at Santa Barbara, throwing eight innings, allowing just two earned runs and eight hits while striking out four, even though he took the loss.
OF Kavares Tears – Walnut Creek Crawdads
Season Stats: 20 GP, .243 AVG, 10 R, 18 H, 3 2B, 3 HR, 17 RBI, 6 BB, .405 SLG, .300 OBP
Logged two multi-hit games in the last week, starting with a 2-for-5 game against the Cal Bees where he drove in three, doubled, scored a run and stole a base. Rounded out the week with a 3-for-6 game at Solano (7/12) where he doubled, scored two runs and drive in a pair in a 16-3 victory.

You technically could have a lower OBP than BA if you don’t walk a lot. BA only takes into account your at bats, whereas OBP takes into account plate appearances. So if a player has a lot of sac flys/bunts then their OBP would go down while their BA would be unaffected.He is hitting for a nice average, 350. So how can his OBP be less than that at 318? Something is strange there.
