Official Book Thread - What You're Reading & Everything Book Related (merged)

I read it and 1984 recently. Good stuff.

I just ordered 1984 Friday ('03 edition, I believe). I can't wait 'till I get my hands on it, the book is a masterpiece. What are your thoughts on the book? You keepin' a closer eye on that slick "Big Brother"? :p

"The Blind Side" by Michael Lewis

I came out feeling like Michael Oher is smart under it all and knew what he was doing getting in good with the Tuhoys.

I also think the Tuhoy's aren't stupid they knew Michael was a NFL prospect from day one and wanted him to go to Ole Miss. The whole we're just some good ole white southern folk is ridiclious, at least to me.

If you like Michael Lewis "The New New Thing" and "Liars Poker" are both good reads.

Finished Interview with a Vampire and I am going to head toward a hero of mine. I am starting Chesty.....about Lewis "Chesty" Puller!

Actaully the book is freakin' long, I am about half through.....

"Montcalm and Wolfe, A Narrative of the French and Indian War" Francis Parkman.

Written in the late 19th century great reading, great language

My son is reading it for school, there was a gentlemen standing beside us, as we were reading through it, and he also said it was great. I will know who to contact if he has some trouble trying to understand it.

I decided last month to try to read some more "classic" books. I just finished the D'Artegnan romances by Dumas (Three Musketeers, Twenty years later, Man in the Iron Mask) and I am currently reading A Farewell to Arms by Hemingway.

Just catching up on old threads, since I haven't been around long.

I've been reading David Copperfield, and it's great. Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham is one of my all-time favorites. I recently read The Road by Cormac McCarthy and highly recommend it. I love everything I've read by McCarthy.

A Farewell To Arms is wonderful, as is For Whom The Bell Tolls. And someone else just mentioned The Sun Also Rises, which I really like as well.
