Official Boxing thread

Last night was the series finale for Friday night fights which was kind of sad but only 1 fight didn't end in a knockout and even then they were just drilling each other for 6 rounds

He did an alright job of coming back after getting knocked down a couple times and I thought had a chance to win the fight the last couple rounds. That one judge that had it 117-109 must have been smoking crack I had it closer to 114-112

Danny Garcia and Daniel Jacobs heading up a PBC card on ESPN the 1st of August.

Works fine for me, Pillow Hands Paulie gets to do what he does best and get beat up by a talented, in form fighter.

Looks like Macklin or Sergio Mora for Jacobs, neither will win, but I can see Matt being game for a bit anyway, Mora is dull, I'm surprised he's still active.

Saw Fernando Vargas on the card tomorrow, thought "wow, that's sad".

Thankfully it's a different Fernando Vargas.

Interesting fight tonight, curious to see how Morales did with Vargas. He sure as hell can't have Vargas go fight like he would.

Unfortunately have to say that way too often with boxing.

"I thought I heard the bell"

Not implying anything subversive, as I think he just is too old to be a good official, but stopping a fight when the favorite is out on his feet with 12 seconds left because you "thought you heard the bell" is going to look shady regardless.

Agreed, I don't think it was anything subversive either, not really sure who would really profit from it in that case anyway. It's just another example of blatant incompetence. Russell made an honest mistake but it isn't the first time it's happened. There was a fight last year where I think he mistook the 10 second warning sound as the final bell 4 or 5 different times.

Frampton/Gonzalez has been pretty darn entertaining, both guys don't mind getting hit, very stereotypical Ireland/Mexico matchup

julio cesar chavez jr is fighting on showtime in his first fight after he quit on the stool. Already off to a bad start by not making weight after they bumped it up twice to try to help him out

He refused to have his weight taken before the fight but he looks like he outweighs reyes by at least 15-20 pounds

The refs have been horrible for the whole card they basically just left chavez pitch a fit until they took a point away from reyes

If you missed it and were thinking about watching a replay I'll save you your time and just give you the cliff notes. Chavez looked horrible, he was a weight class or two bigger than reyes, he couldn't knock reyes down with said weight advantage, chavez cried to the ref about something every round, chavez won a decision and then complained after the fight he couldn't knock him out because he "hurt" his poor little old hand

Hopefully his next fight he'll fight a better fighter and catch the beat down he so rightly deserves
