Official Brexit Referendum Discussion

The UK’s submarine and subs carrying their nukes are in Scotland along with some RAF bases. Without Scotland the U.K. and NATO lose coverage of the North Sea, Norwegian Sea and basing for its navy which is kind of important when your trying to keep track of all the Russian subs.

Have either Scotland or the UK said they were leaving NATO? Maybe I missed it if they did (serious). Is their membership contingent on being part of the EU?

The SNP have stated that if there was a material change of circumstances, such as the UK leaving the EU there would be a second referendum. Brexit is now all but assured so the Scots are going to leave the U.K.

Northern Ireland would mostly leave the U.K. after Scotland. But that one could be bloody.
It depends if a border solution is worked out.

Remember your SOP post earlier? 🤷‍♂️

So check this out. I was googling the military ramifications of Scotland leaving the UK and got this old Guardian article. What surprises me is this pop up. Talk about foreign campaign meddling. I am curious to even the legality of it. See if it shows up when you click.

America faces an epic choice...
… in the coming year, and the results will define the country for a generation. These are perilous times. Over the last three years, much of what the Guardian holds dear has been threatened – democracy, civility, truth. This US administration is establishing new norms of behaviour. Anger and cruelty disfigure public discourse and lying is commonplace. Truth is being chased away. But with your help we can continue to put it center stage. It will be defining year and we’re asking for your help as we prepare for 2020.

Rampant disinformation, partisan news sources and social media's tsunami of fake news is no basis on which to inform the American public in 2020. The need for a robust, independent press has never been greater, and with your help we can continue to provide fact-based reporting that offers public scrutiny and oversight. We are also committed to keeping our journalism open and accessible to everyone and with your help we can keep it that way.

"America is at a tipping point, finely balanced between truth and lies, hope and hate, civility and nastiness. Many vital aspects of American public life are in play – the Supreme Court, abortion rights, climate policy, wealth inequality, Big Tech and much more. The stakes could hardly be higher. As that choice nears, the Guardian, as it has done for 200 years, and with your continued support, will continue to argue for the values we hold dear – facts, science, diversity, equality and fairness." – US editor, John Mulholland

On the occasion of its 100th birthday in 1921 the editor of the Guardian said, "Perhaps the chief virtue of a newspaper is its independence. It should have a soul of its own." That is more true than ever. Freed from the influence of an owner or shareholders the Guardian's robust independence is our unique driving force and guiding principle.

We also want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported the Guardian in 2019. You provide us with the motivation and financial support to keep doing what we do. We hope to surpass our goal by early January. Every contribution, big or small, will help us reach it. Make a year-end gift from as little as $1. Thank you.

So Clyde Naval base at Gare Lochin Argyll and Bute, Scotland isn’t the home of the UK’s Sub launched ICBMs??? RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, Scotland isn’t the home of the U.K.s 4 squadrons of Typhoons and a squadron of P-8s???

Every time I've followed a link to the Guardian (mostly through Real Clear Politics) there's a solicitation for cash. Kudos to them I guess for clearly if inadvertently showing their agenda.

Way to ignore the point genius 🙄 you have no viable information and don’t know WTF you’re talking about on Scotland leaving NATO if they split with the UK

This was not a link from another site. It is solicited by the US Editor for the Guardian as said in text. Just think it peculiar that foreign paper is soliciting. It is not really a pop up. Just part of the column.

NATO has already said Scotland would not get automatic membership in NATO. If the Scots had a vote on membership it would be in opposition because the Scots do not approve of the use of nuclear weapons. In order for them to join NATO they would have to let the Brits base the subs with tridents in Scotland. Well that’s most likely not happening. Without trident being based there it’s membership would be blocked.

It’s easy to say that for support. Once you are autonomous you have to pick a side.
