they shouldnt start the race at freaking 3:30 plus watching a homo sing the natl' anthem
What is more important, 5000 fans at the track or 15 million watching tv?
I agree with the first part. Why???? Why do you start a race that late on the eastern side of the United States?
People may disagree with me but Brian France is not cut out to run NASCAR. He is an idiot. Maybe he is not directly involved in some of the calls but he runs the show and it's his place to put the right people in charge and it's his place to have smart rules in place to prevent the stupidity in NASCAR. Look at the Jr. and Vickers deal. If Robby Gordon hit vickers like that he would have been parked immediately. Vickers had every right to block Jr. knowing that NASCAR would call it at the drop of a raindrop and them fighting for the lap back.
Looking at radar, the rain moved south of Daytona about 9 pm. A little late to start trying to dry the track and get 50 more laps in IMO.
Valid point, but the $$$ is the bottom line. Not sure they lost any advertising revenue and not sure if they would have gained any by staying on longer. Those contracts were already written and finalized. The costs to keep everything going had to be a determining factor. That and the fact that it didn't stop raining in Daytona until just after 9.
I'm with starting the race about 1pm. Screw the west coast, NASCAR is a southern thing. Get home from church, watch racing. It's not get home from church, wait three hours, then watch racing.
For the Daytona 500 I would not put Monday out of question to finish it. This is like calling game 7 of the World Series after 6 innings for rain. If this is California or any other track i can deal with it but not the sport's Super Bowl.
I am happy for Matt Kenseth but this just isn't the same as taking the checkered flag at Daytona.
I wonder if Fox didn't have some say in the quick call. It really screws up their programming.

They have always called a race official after half distance if unable to finish that day. I don't think they should change that, but try harder to get it in.
I agree but I would make the Daytona 500 the lone exception. It would just add to the prestige of the race knowing it's the only one that MUST be completed. If it wasn't the biggest race of the year I wouldn't care. I just hate seeing the season start out like this. Looks like another year of Goodyear problems too. Not sure I can blame Goodyear when they have to find a tire that will work on the COT.
That is a puzzle to me. I find it very difficult to believe Goodyear cannot bring a tire that works. They really don't have to worry about speed, there is no competition.
Tony Stewart seems to think Goodyear is the problem and he should know if anyone does. On the other hand, these guys push the limits on their alignment angles which doesn't help. I would love to see what Michelin could do if given the chance to make a race tire for NASCAR.
I respectfully disagree with you here Bill. Its the biggest race of the season and I think the fans would have stayed for sure. Tomorrow is a Federal Holiday and I'm fairly sure that people would have stayed there as long as it took to run those last 50 laps. Maybe I'm wrong but I really feel that way.
I believe the last 500 called for rain was M. Waltrip's second 500 win. I felt cheated that year and I do again this year. That being said, I am not sure what the answer for NASCAR is. Nonetheless, that is how I feel.
