To be fair, he could have, and he hasn't. People have come back strong from these injuries before, including Giles himself. He has a valid excuse for not looking like the #1, but to say that no one could have expected more than 12-15 minutes and 5 points per game at this point is a bit revisionist.
So I agree with AV on that point, but at the same time, it's weird timing to criticize him because he actually did make a meaningful contribution to the Virginia win. I would say the flashes have been few and far between, but they've been there.
Any chance Collinsworth takes over for K when he retires?
Chris Collins is definitely earning respect for what he's doing at Northwestern this year. I don't think most of what happened during K's absence is Capel's fault (I, instead believe it was an existing problem that K should've already addressed), but I don't want Capel as the successor at all.
All that said, Chris Collinsworth would be the most fun replacement, obviously. He'd have to adjust to not lining up in formations though. I could see him setting up receiving routes for inbounds plays.
Not at all. Giles is doing just as everyone expected. Going to play 10-20 mins a game, try to show some flashes of what he once was, and show scouts he's fully healthy. The fact that he's even playing for Duke this year is something some didn't even think he would do. He's still on a minutes restriction so why would anyone expect him to play anymore than 10-15 minutes? Everyone who comes back from major surgery is always limited for 10-20 games, Giles isn't there yet. Not everyone can come back from an MCL and ACL tear in one knee, a torn ACL in the other knee, and unknown injury on the knee he tore the ACL and MCL in and played 30 minutes immediately. That's dumb. This is exactly what most expected. Come tournament time hopefully the staff lets him play 20-25 mins. He looked great the other night in the 20ish he got to play, but the only reason he played that much was because of Amile's foul trouble.
But a lot of people have him in the 15-20 range now. His stock has dropped. 4 minutes in late February isn't exactly what everyone expected
Looking back, unless they were sold on beating out Amile, im not sure how Giles and Bolden were sold on PT at Duke with how they play. At the end of the day, their lineups are always better with a stretch 4 and one big man. This wasn't changing.
