Ill start off. I was out of town, and almost gave up on us ever having a capable coach when I read the news of Jones being hired. I of course did some research, and as always (Dooley being the lone exception( convinced myself he could get the job done. My lone worry was recruiting. I knew recruiting to UT, was different that Cincy, and that if he was good, we would see the results. Well, he has blown past my best expectations in a little over three months. The man has proven he can coach, and now he is showing everyone he can recruit. Russia got a falling star, UT may have gotten one too. But only people getting hurt here are opposing coaches feelings, knowing they can no longer cherry pick this states top talent. If this week is any inclination of what's to come, consider me giddy.

I was wrong about Butch. Any others?

I'm with you goat. Butch did extremely well driving a Ford Focus. He just took the wheel of a Ferrari! It's ON now! Go Vols!

Considering I had bought into the Gruden hype, then the Strong hope, I too have learned that if you're drunk enough, crow tastes like filet mignon.

I was much more optimistic about this hire than I was about the Dooley hire, and I've believed CBJ would improve the on-field product from the second he was hired. However, even I'll say it: Let's play a few games first.

I really don't mean to be a downer, but I need to see a few games first.

I was ready for that.

He has won everywhere he has been. I am not worried about his game planning. I was worried about his sales pitch to allure elite talent. Baring a 4-8, or 3-9 season next year, my fears are completely alleviated.

I'm guessing we will see about 35% of what his system can do this year with current players. We should be full throttle and pushing for an SEC title by 2015 and a BCS title by 2016

Yeah. He can recruit, and has proven he can coach at the D1 level.

Lets wait until he can prove it yet again. Makes no sense catboner.

This fanbase has been through enough to warrant not jumping on board yet. (Especially with Cheek still running things)

More and more people are coming around though.

Kelly jr, and Hurd would NOT have been Vols had Dooley and co. still been here. That's a FACT!

If "better than Derek Dooley" was the criterion for the hire, then we should have just torn down Neyland Stadium and moved the Ag Campus closer in.

I am not crapping on Jones at all. I just think it's way way premature for a victory lap.

Good lord. He got a couple highly rated in state legacies. He hasn't coached his first game, gone through a complete spring practice, orange/white game, fall practice, or his first full NSD. Chill the f out.

Winning battles and winning wars aren't the same thing. That said, I'm feeling pretty good for the time being.

He's not going to be able to win in the SEC by pulling legacies and lifelong Vol fans from Nashville. He's got to be able to pull players of Hurd's caliber out of places like Georgia and Florida and South Carolina. I'm sorry, but I'm just not going to accept it as a given that he can recruit at a championship level until I see him getting top players from out of state.

Not being a downer very much. I think we all need to see a few games before we can say he truly will be a successful here. But after this recruiting class fell short of what everyone was hoping or expecting, I think Hurd and others committing has given us more assurance about his recruiting ability. You have to recruit the best players in the nation, and if he can pull off a decent season and possibly a bowl win, I think we'll have a top 5 class next year.

This^^^ We've had enough Negavol action to last a lifetime. I'm totally sold on Butch and his plan. His first true class is already rated higher than Dooley ever achieved with only 5 recruits.

Every fan, of all teams, are excited about every new season.

Has nothing to do with proclaiming a coach's success or failure after not coaching a game, fall practice, or even spring practice.

Is it such a bad thing that people are happy about the hire? Just let people be happy about the positive things happening right now. Of course Butch hasn't coached a game or a full practice, but just because realistically we'll probably lose to Alabama next year, doesn't mean I'm not going to cheer for us.

I'll pass that on to Ron Zook.
