Official "eat crow" because Butch was hired here thread

Oh I'm patient. I'm not predicting anything. I'm only arguing that CBJ has a history of winning and, to this point, has pushed all the right buttons. The guys I argue with on here say pretty much the exact opposite and want to say stuff like he's gotta win at least 7 games this year or none of what he's done so far matters. They're the ones who need patience and, quite honestly, an attitude adjustment.

And by the way, virtually no one could stop our offense last year.... not until the 4th quarter anyway. Thanks for your peace brokering attempt.

Finally, I supported CDD til the Missouri game last year. He may be a fine fella and yes he didn't come into a good situation here, far from it. But nothing, and I do mean virtually nothing, about his coaching performance thus far suggest he is a fine coach. One winning season in 6 just doesn't cut it.

If you will allow me to go all "Joseph Campbell"... CDD was obviously in over his head, but he's on his own 'hero's journey'. I hope that he has taken something from facing his 'threshold guardians' here, has absorbed some of their powers, and has grown from the experiences. I would like to see him succeed in the future.

We shouldn't forget that he did some positive things here. It doesn't negate the losses, etc... But he's traveling through life just like the rest of us.

PKT, you don't know how "anybody can think such a thing?" If I had said that about Dooley when he came in from La Tech with a .459 winning %, I could understand.

Butch has won nearly 2/3 of his games as head coach, won 4 out of 6 league championships, has won a coach of the year award, has been lauded by every former Vol who has met him, has been endorsed by NFL guys, including Mike Tomlin, has gotten off to a great start recruiting, has been stated as THE REASON why one of the top running backs and one of the top DBs in the country has come to play at UT, and has literally pushed every single right button that he could possibly push to this point..... That's how you could think such a thing. Come on man.

Of course it all has to translate on the field, he's gotta win, we all know that ultimately. But as of now, given his track record and how he's conducting himself so far, you'd have to almost be a fool to NOT think the programs in great hands.

Alright, I'm done with this argument. See you on another thread sometime.

Jason Garrett endorsed Dooley not only by hiring him for his staff. But directly to me. Ran into him at a valet stand. Normally don't talk or bother people but he had a UT workout jacket on, so had to ask. We talked about Dooley for a few mins. Considers him a good friend and told me he will do great if people are patience and give him to time to fix it. Soooo...???

See how people have different opinions of people?? Is Tomlins endorsement bigger than Garretts endorsement?? Yall are acting if everyone has nothing bad to say about CBJ but that's not the case. And vice versa about dooley. Or as if there are no coaches that people don't think are arrogant pricks. Dooley is just easy to pick on. Yall also act as TKSr said his son wasn't coming to UT cause Dooley was a prick or something. Not just the generic comment that he did make. Now if he did say exactly then let me know cause I haven't seen it yet.

When it comes to the serious business of internet discussions, you gotta pull out all the stops bruh. :)

Very well put and very intelligent post.

Anyone who is backtracking and claiming to not be bashing Dooley, try some honesty. Do you repeatedly bring uphis name and post negative comments about him? If it's yes on any level, you're bashing. "But I'm only comparing what happened while he was here and with CBJ." You're bashing. Jones seems to be what the UT really needs right now. No need to mention CDD name at all for that kind of support. But when it's use as camouflage to say something negative about the man, no one is fooled, except yourself maybe.

There's an adage. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. This surely applies to the DD matter. Either one is a spiteful person who absolutely must mud wallow or, one is not. Kind of simple really. Same thing with the Kiffin hate. No need to be a bulldog about it and refuse to let go. Our mascot is after all, Smokey not Uga.

Well said. This needs to be bumped "fo eva". That's why I keep trying to respond cause exactly what u said. People say stuff like "well at least he will be coached up by this staff to succeed" or something like that earlier in this thread. That's a jab at dooley and gives him no credit for getting him to UT and his mother loving the guy.

He also isn't going to come on here to defend himself so people can jab and tell half truths that turn into truth cause people read it and don't research it and then spread it. Seriously miserable people in this fan base and will bring CBJ down too if people don't learn how to police themselves.

First, nice job cherry picking my post for the one point you thought you could refute. His 5-2 record in the BE (10-3 overall) tied him for first. Would've won outright but lost he to Louisville (first time in 3 games that he lost to Strong by the way) AT Louisville by 3 points... in overtime. You remember that Louisville team that beat the ever living hell out of Florida a few weeks later in their bowl game, right?

So youre telling me that if your boy Dooley, by some miracle, had coached UT to a tie with Georgia in the SEC East last year, that if he claimed an SEC East title, you'd have laughed your ass off at him? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Second, I'll take the full body of work, a 50-27 record over 6 years with 2 different teams. That tends to beat the hell out of anything Dooley ever did at UT or at the mighty LaTech

Ha!!!!! Dooley VKAmans boy???? U just proved that people like u accuse people of things that aren't true. If u just read this thread alone u would know the guy and I don't agree on anything when it comes to dooley.

Just pathetic...

Yo! Good post my friend..

The line "your boy Dooley" was evidently a mistake on my part. Agreed. It was just a throwaway line given that he was taking shots at CBJ. I assumed he was a dumba$$ like you. My bad.

Can I, as a non-family member, settle this. Coaches, like Presidents, are often victims (or benefactors) of their circumstances. Bill Clinton and Gene Chizik come to mind. CDD is a fine coach with a good pedigree. Just ask me if you don't believe me. Came into the perfect storm started by some guy who left in the middle of the night for the left coast. CBJ might be a great HC. Might be a bust. No one will know until next Nov. If anyone can accurately predict these things you're probably wasting your time in this forum. I saw on this very site many, many posters say "2012 is our year. No one can stop our offense", etc, etc. Some of you Vols tend to get a little over zealous. Patience my friends........patience.

No no. It was most definitely started, and perpetuated the most, by Fulmer's last four seasons. Lane certainly didn't help things.
