Official "eat crow" because Butch was hired here thread

Kelly jr, and Hurd would NOT have been Vols had Dooley and co. still been here. That's a FACT!

They would not have been here if you compare what would've been a fourth year Derek Dooley coming off three losing seasons to a first year Butch Jones. However, if you are comparing a first year Derek Dooley to a first year Butch Jones that is highly debateable and definitely not a fact.

I'll pass that on to Ron Zook.

It's all about having an infallible, proven plan that works before you go into battle. Most street fighters don't know if they are going to win or lose because they have no plan and simply react and swing wide open hoping they don't get tagged.

Good lord. He got a couple highly rated in state legacies. He hasn't coached his first game, gone through a complete spring practice, orange/white game, fall practice, or his first full NSD. Chill the f out.

Yes, because weve been pulling so much in state this early for years now. :bad:

What about Dobbs and Harris to finish the current class? Butch has earned some early praise and most people are giving it to him. He still has to win , I think most people get that. So maybe you are the one who needs to chill the f out?

That is very debatable that you would consider that highly debatable.

Is it such a bad thing that people are happy about the hire? Just let people be happy about the positive things happening right now. Of course Butch hasn't coached a game or a full practice, but just because realistically we'll probably lose to Alabama next year, doesn't mean I'm not going to cheer for us.

Good lord. We have an irrational fan base.

1) There is no problem voicing pleasure over our recruiting. Just keep in mind we have been blessed this recruiting season with very talented in state legacies.

2) What does what I said having anything to do with you cheering for UT?

He is an unproven commodity at this level; plain and simple. Anytime morons want to jump the gun on an "eating crow" thread before the coach's first spring practice is over, I am going to knock him back down to reality.

This is simply too dumb for words.

There is nothing in Jones plan that is inherently different than other coaches. It is all coach speak.

Idk man you and the others people would probably call "negavols" (I'd never use that term) try to act like the forum police on here. That's what I mean by "oh were going to lose to bama next year", yeah but I'm still going to cheer for them. Someone just has to start a controversy on every positive butch thread... and that someone is you right now.

In recent years, how many times have we bad top flight legacies in our backyard? Common. Acting like this isn't an odd but blessed occurance is naive.

Hunter and Roger to close out a top ten class. Sound familiar?

You guys have lost all since of perspective.

Controversy? You serious, brah?

The thread was built on a ridiculous premise. I pointed that out. I am not sure how that is negative; let alone a "controversy".

No it is not, Dooley pulled Tiny, Clear, Maggitt, Aj, Couch, Arnett, Moore, and Jackson in his first class.

Not trying to take away from that, but AJ was committed before I had thought, and Arnett and Clear really worked out great. So I guess I did kind of take away from it, but I think Butch showed more potential in his first recruiting class. JMO

That's what I'm saying, you have to say something to sprout an argument, controversy, whatever you would like to call it. You just can't let people boost us up without trying to bring them down. And yes, you are correct by saying Butch might not be everything we're hyping him up to be, but after you and everyone else have posted that on every single thread, we get it, shut up please.

The recruits and the feedback thusfar are good signs going forward, from what little we have to judge by. I don't think that's deniable.

But on the same note, lets not have SEC championship banners made yet. Take the good news for what it is, and see what we look like on the field.

How do we know Marquez North won't transfer out after a year just like Arnett did? You're giving Jones credit for "more potential" just because you don't know how his players are going to turn out yet. Go back and look at the Arnett recruiting thread if you want to see people excited about potential.

Really? How thick are you man? It's the same offense that TAMU and Johnny pounded Rommel and The trailer park with and the same defense Chief ran at UT and has at LSU. You need some smart pills dude.

You're right, I don't know how Marquez North will turn out. But from Dooley's past two season's recruiting could honestly not get much worse. So when Butch got his name in on many of the top recruits left, I saw a lot of potential. I'm pretty much comparing his results of recruiting to how bad people said he was going to do here. And now that he has landed great in state talent already in what will be his first true recruiting class, I'm fairly sold that he can recruit. He's also won everywhere he's been, and after recruiting well already, I'm also fairly sold that he will have success here winning.

Aj Johnson committed to Tennessee summer of his junior year, and then decommitted when Kiffin left with Florida being in the lead after that until September when we overtook them and got his committment. Also, I don't see how what Clear and Arnett did is very relevant in this discussion. Point is they were 2 highly recruited players. If you bring in how these highly rated recruits did in college Butch has an unfair advantage seeing as players like Kelly and Hurd have not even stepped on campus yet. I do agree CBJ showed more potential in his first recruiting class, but will also say being hired in December instead of the middle of January. However, where CBJ does stand out is in the list of prospects attending junior days. Now here is to hoping he can pull in a top class of 30-32 highly touted vols and will coninue to pull in great classes from here on out. It is not that I don't hope he succeeds, just find some of the comments in this thread a bit premature as I feel like most first year coaches at UT could pull in a very good first year class just from the excitement that arises from a storied program turning a page and starting a new era.

And speaking of Hurd being a UT fan, you know who else was supposedly a UT fan, Vonn Bell. You know who Dooley could not get to commit early? Vonn Bell. So whoopty **** Hurd was a UT fan, it's damn good recruiting by Butch and Staff.

If "better than Derek Dooley" was the criterion for the hire, then we should have just torn down Neyland Stadium and moved the Ag Campus closer in.

I am not crapping on Jones at all. I just think it's way way premature for a victory lap.

We just landed Wharton, TKj, Creamer, and HURD.. And it's just March!

I'll go ahead and run my victory lap sir.

Having been a former HS QB...I never once went into a practice or a game and asked the Coach "Do you think we have a chance"? My mindset as with every player, on every team, at every level is...We will destroy our opponent today" For some reason you don't seem to get that basic principle for winning.

You're probably right, but I'd like to attribute it to Butch, not just say "oh every new coach brings a good recruiting class because of the hype".

North was the #2 wr in the country from nearby N Carolina, and he has the perfect opportunity to take a spot in our totally depleted WR core.. He doesn't have a sick dad, and chances are, his position coach won't leave after this season..

I'd say there aren't many similarities in the two.

Exactly, call it premature, but we had to of had one of the most successful recruiting months.
