Official "eat crow" because Butch was hired here thread

Anyone who is backtracking and claiming to not be bashing Dooley, try some honesty. Do you repeatedly bring uphis name and post negative comments about him? If it's yes on any level, you're bashing. "But I'm only comparing what happened while he was here and with CBJ." You're bashing. Jones seems to be what the UT really needs right now. No need to mention CDD name at all for that kind of support. But when it's use as camouflage to say something negative about the man, no one is fooled, except yourself maybe.

There's an adage. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. This surely applies to the DD matter. Either one is a spiteful person who absolutely must mud wallow or, one is not. Kind of simple really. Same thing with the Kiffin hate. No need to be a bulldog about it and refuse to let go. Our mascot is after all, Smokey not Uga.

I do think there is a high probability that you and a couple others on here are quite delusional, as both those players have stated from their own mouths that they would NOT be coming to UT if Dooley was still the coach. It's been stated many, many times and for the life of me I can't see how someone can argue against that??? Sheesh

TKjr and Hurd: We would not be going to UT if Dooley were still the coach.

PKT_VOL: Oh yes you would.

TKjr and Hurd: No, we really wouldn't.

PKT_VOL: Yes you would because you were coming to UT no matter who the coach was. I should know where you guys are going to college better than you do....

TKjr and Hurd (and all sane people): Whatever dude.

If these kids are UT legacies and they had to think about whether or not they would play for a certain coach at UT, I have to question their loyalty. It's a long time 'til signin' day!

Did you not see who our coach was ? Anyway, no need for you to worry about their loyalty, Butch is in charge now.

Did he say "wouldn't have signed with UT" or "he didn't like Dooley". 2 different things.

After Todd Kelly Jr signed committed to UT, Sr did an interview on 1045 the Zone in Nashville. When he was asked, point blank, if Jr would've signed with UT if Dooley was still the coach/the former staff was still here and he said no. He didn't say he "didn't like Dooley", that was easily and clearly assumed by his answer.

The interview is posted on page 3 of this forum if you want to go back actually listen to it. He's a class act, but he makes it quite clear what he thinks about the former staff.

I'm guessing this was in response to my post. I don't go out of my way to bring up CDD. I have already stated in this thread that I wish him no ill will.

When the conversation is about the veracity of CBJ's recruiting so far this year, and the idea was floated that it's not very impressive, considering that those recruits were coming here anyway, it seems appropriate to bring up whether they would have come in under the old coach-- since these recruits broached the subject.

Life in black and white may seem easier to live, but it removes a lot of reality. In other words, you are presenting the fallacy of the excluded middle. Another option may be those of us who are ambivalent on the subject and can discuss things without ill intent or hyper-emotional connotations, while also not needlessly defending every area of his tenure.

As a matter of fact, I reminded a poster in another thread to go get some perspective when they (jokingly?) remarked they wanted to throat-punch CDD.

Again... When a conversation dictates a comparison between the two staffs, it's difficult to have that conversation without referencing the former staff. I would advise recognizing the areas of grey, stop excluding the middle option, and refrain from attributing inferred motives in overly generalized ways.

Dear Forum Police,

I don't think you were even talking to me, but is there something wrong with saying a terrible coach was terrible?

I'll bash him as much as I please, unless they change forum rules to forbid it.

I'm guessing you're one of the goofballs going "VFL! BOOM!" while Dooley was busy flushing the program down the toilet.

Ok. I'll bite. The point to your setup question?

OV already articulated my point. You may buy the idea that literally half of the entire Big East conference was 2012 conference champions, but I don't. If someone passed me wearing a shirt that said "RUTGERS: 2012 BIG EAST FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS," I'd laugh in their face.

First, nice job cherry picking my post for the one point you thought you could refute. His 5-2 record in the BE (10-3 overall) tied him for first. Would've won outright but lost he to Louisville (first time in 3 games that he lost to Strong by the way) AT Louisville by 3 points... in overtime. You remember that Louisville team that beat the ever living hell out of Florida a few weeks later in their bowl game, right?

So youre telling me that if your boy Dooley, by some miracle, had coached UT to a tie with Georgia in the SEC East last year, that if he claimed an SEC East title, you'd have laughed your ass off at him? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Second, I'll take the full body of work, a 50-27 record over 6 years with 2 different teams. That tends to beat the hell out of anything Dooley ever did at UT or at the mighty LaTech

1. There's no such thing as an "SEC East title."

2. Yes, I'd laugh at that. I've said several times that Dooley was an awful coach, but you still seem to think I'm defending Dooley and I'm not sure why.

3. I don't care whether Jones is better than Dooley. Everyone is better than Dooley. Jones should be held to a higher standard than that.

4. You're telling me that if Jones didn't lose as often as he lost, he would have won the Big East. So you agree with me? This has nothing to do with Dooley.

So do you think half the conference won the 2012 Big East title, or not? You really didn't disagree with anything I said.

1. Know there's not an SEC East title... But the team with the best record in the SEC East does play the team from the SEC West with the best record in the SEC Championship game, yes? You know what I meant

2. Personally, I wouldn't laugh at a team that legitimately wins a share of their conference title. Hell, Alabama won the National Championship 2years ago and they didn't even play in the SEC championship game...nothing to laugh at IMHO.

3. Agree with you on point 3

4. No, I'm telling you if Jones hadn't won as often as he won, that he couldn't have tied for first in his conference. Glass half full chief.

Either way, while I'm pulling for him to win this year, you go ahead and pull for him to fail so you can come beat your chest on VN. Knock yourself out buddy.

He and many others will laugh and call you an idiot for even thinking that.

I don't believe them.

Won't be the last time, I can assure you. But what an I supposed to think. I respond to another guy on here with a fairly long post, not with my opinions but with the facts of Jones' coaching record and career to date. And you pick out one part of that post and are critical about it.

I didn't exactly infer that you were a CBJ fan and think he's gonna succeed here. Was I wrong? If I mischaracterized your position I'll back off and cede that ground to you. There are plenty of guys on here that irrationally, in my opinion, knock the hell out of CBJs career to this point. If you're not one of those guys then my apologies.

Behr, my bad, thought I was responding to VKA. Thanks for the support pal. And yes, I know what he's gonna say.

I choose to pull for our coach til he gives me a reason not to.... like I did with Dooley.

Someone with a t-shirt pumping Rutgers up probably has New Jersey roots...so after you laugh in their face, prepare to have work done on yours...something to ponder whilst keeping it real

Some guy with a career in waste management maybe?

But...if you don't jump on the coach bashing bus early...the ones on board already will have to start talking to each other #monotonousdrivel

Can I, as a non-family member, settle this. Coaches, like Presidents, are often victims (or benefactors) of their circumstances. Bill Clinton and Gene Chizik come to mind. CDD is a fine coach with a good pedigree. Just ask me if you don't believe me. Came into the perfect storm started by some guy who left in the middle of the night for the left coast. CBJ might be a great HC. Might be a bust. No one will know until next Nov. If anyone can accurately predict these things you're probably wasting your time in this forum. I saw on this very site many, many posters say "2012 is our year. No one can stop our offense", etc, etc. Some of you Vols tend to get a little over zealous. Patience my friends........patience.

Oh I'm patient. I'm not predicting anything. I'm only arguing that CBJ has a history of winning and, to this point, has pushed all the right buttons. The guys I argue with on here say pretty much the exact opposite and want to say stuff like he's gotta win at least 7 games this year or none of what he's done so far matters. They're the ones who need patience and, quite honestly, an attitude adjustment.

And by the way, virtually no one could stop our offense last year.... not until the 4th quarter anyway. Thanks for your peace brokering attempt.

Finally, I supported CDD til the Missouri game last year. He may be a fine fella and yes he didn't come into a good situation here, far from it. But nothing, and I do mean virtually nothing, about his coaching performance thus far suggest he is a fine coach. One winning season in 6 just doesn't cut it.
