Official Game Thread #10 Tennessee vs #7 Purdue

Why does Pearl REFUSE to ever call a timeout at the end of a game to set up a play? It seems like we lose so many games in this same fashion. Everyone is talking about Purdue but wait and see, Michigan State will wipe the floor with Purdue this year. I was expecting a whole lot more from TN than what I saw tonight. Very disappointing to me.

Because our offense is up-tempo. We just flat-out are not a half-court team.

you people are ridiculous. No, we didn't play the best but I'm just as confident to have Chism shoot a three to win than have someone drive the lane looking for a foul and not get one, or miss the layup. It isn't like he never makes that shot, he just missed this time.

And some of you calling for Pearls head need to realize that you don't have to win all the games. Our team will learn and get better. One point away from beating the number 6 team in the nation...

We have lost more close games in the past few years than we have won. It seems like we usually lose these games like this at the end. Purdue is ranked high but I dont think Purdue is going to be one of those final four teams. They are probably a sweet 16 team but I wouldnt bet much more. It's just disappointing to finally see us play this year and watch them go 9 minutes without a field goal in the second half. I can't help it. I am disappointed.

Everyone needs to calm down a little. Yes it sux and i would love to have won, but you have a wide open shot that if it goes in everyone here is sayin how well weezy played and what a clutch shot and we should be in the top 5 now. So take a breath we haven't even played a conference game.

Yea, those "other" teams ('Cuse) are doing terrible.

Idiots.

Idiot? lol i'm simply stating that I would rather lose to a top 10 team before an exhibition opponent. I know exactly how well the 'Cuse are doing and how well Michigan St. did last year. It's the fact some people act like a season is over after an early loss. This isnt football. Theres a long run to the end from now. Wins and Losses in games like this help in the long run....

Either your expectations were too high for UT or your expectations too low for Purdue. This game played out exactly as most people thought. We had a chance to win and missed. Not a huge loss at all. We showed that we can play with a top team. We just have to learn to win.

In Pearl's first few years here he was VERY good at setting up a play at the end of games, but lately it seems he always let them just try and "create" to win the game. It just doesn't seem like we have won our share of those lately.

It's as simple as this: foul trouble dictated the game for both teams. We lost by one to the #6 team in the country; lots of bench players have seen a lot of valuable playing time. You play in these early season tournaments against tough competition to prepare you for the "real" season. Get over it, we'll be fine.

Well this has been the first true test of the young season... sucks tonight but if the experience helps when we face Memphis and Kansas I'll gladly trade.

I did not see anything that convinced me that this team has improved. The half court game on both ends still lacks. On the offensive end, we stand around and do not work to get open, and on the "D" end, allow too many teams the opportunity to shoot open shots around the foul line and top of the key. If Bruce doesn't get this team to improve in these areas, then we will not beat UK and have another early exit from the NCAA's.

Everyone who is freaking out has suddenly forgotten about 3 Florida games, a versus Texas, and countless other times where we were on the winning side of converting a game winning shot.

That or you jumped on the bandwagon late enough to have never actually had to watch truly bad basketball at Tennessee.

I know that's the case, but if so why back it out? If you're going to back it out and let the clock run down, you lose nothing by calling a timeout.

He had no shot driving to the right. Backing out to Chism was the right play, it just didn't work out from there.

We lost to the number 6 team in the country....we lost. If we are ETSU i feel good. We are the number 9 team in the country so i'm frustrated.

Why? Wide open look, that's his shot. Just didn't fall. Too many empty possessions in 2nd half

Purdue had no size in the game at the end. The ball should have gone to Chism in the post. A three point shot by Chism is not a terrible option but should not have been THE option. :banghead2:

I understand, but if we have to back it out, why not use the timeout? At least we would have some sort of play set up rather than one pass and jacking up a three with one guy inside to rebound.
