Official Game Thread #10 Tennessee vs #7 Purdue

I just don't think Purdue has the same talent level as Tennessee. Player for player I think TN is just much better and should have beat this team. I love TN and a Pearl fan but it always seems like they go through a game and have a 8 or 9 minute stretch with no scoring. Athletically Purdue isnt close to TN, I guess that's why it sucks.

You all are assuming that Bruce can draw up plays. We don't ever draw up plays, so why should it be any different at the end.

We've finished in the top 20 in offensive efficiency every season he's been here... out of over 320 teams. I assure you, he can draw up a play.

Go watch the East Carolina game... East Carolina wasn't running anything resembling an offense. That's what not running an offense looks like.

We lost to the number 6 team in the country....we lost. If we are ETSU i feel good. We are the number 9 team in the country so i'm frustrated.

So now we know that 1 point separates #6 from #9. They beat us. We had a chance and this time we missed. It is frustrating but some people on here are borderline retarded.

Everybody keeps forgetting about Tennessee being #9.

No one is saying to be complacent with the loss, but we lost a game we were ranked to lose. By a point. It wasn't a blow out. From what I saw, the difference between 6 and 9 is a push. We have things to work on, but we aren't just some woefully overranked team.

Get to the rim and your chances are ten times better than Chism jacking up a three. He's not Chris Lofton.

no joke.

Wayne owned the paint late, and with Johnson out, why in the world would you not run your offense through Wayne down low when you're only down by 1? At least let him kick out to one of our jump shooters if he didn't have a good look.

Critiquing that final play shows respect for the team - we should expect them to win in those situations. We had that winning instinct a couple seasons ago when we beat Xavier and Memphis. This was a wasted oppy to get it back.

I understand, but if we have to back it out, why not use the timeout? At least we would have some sort of play set up rather than one pass and jacking up a three with one guy inside to rebound.

You've got to like the opportunity there. There were maybe 4-5 players total that were upcourt in position to do anything. That means lots of room in a pretty dang good defense.

Hopefully the team and coaching staff learn from this game but they sure did look alot like last years team with all the mistakes, questionable shots and mental lapses. Hate to see one we should have won slip away because of our own ineptitude.

All you can do is hope they realize and recoginize the issues and move forward and get ready for CoC, I bet Tony White JR lights us up, we seem to have problems wih guards. ;-)

How long have you been watching basketball, seriously?

8 or 9 minutes is a bit of an exaggeration but basketball is a game of runs. Always has been.

We closed on a 6-1 run for example.

Hopson was a no show tonight. I have been reading how he has been lighting it up, but I did not see it at all. He made one nice move toward the end but that's all I saw. Tennessee has much better players than Purdue in my opinion. Pearl's daddy looked pretty ticked off too. I thought Chism was wide open to drive it down the lane at the end instead of settling for a 3 pointer.

He hardly played the 2nd half after his first half performance. How about Woolridge though - how many minutes did he play? He really did make the most of those, lol.

But he doesn't have plays. We just run and gun. Anytime we set up to run an offensive set, we look like CRAP. Then, we end up taking a wild shot with 3 seconds left on the shot clock. Our half-court sets are terrible!

All those points in the first 3 games came from forcing turnovers and fast breaks, not offensive sets. When we face teams that don't turn the ball over and can get back on defense, we can't score.

I'd put this loss on our offensive, in the half-court we looked completely lost. I do think Bruce blew the game by not calling a timeout there at the end. If we were to have thrown the ball in to Chism or Smith I would've liked our chances alot more. This definitely doesn't go on Chism though

It's a tough loss but, it was to the number 6 team in the country, and it was in November. This hurts as it takes away a chance for a good non-conference win which matters for seeding next March.

Hopefully it can be a learning experience. Guys have got to step up though.

I'd rather see McBee playing for Carson-Newman.
Yea, that makes since for the purest shooter on the team to go to a small campus college in a retirement community.
Save your post for a few years when he is being lauded as one of the country's outside shooters.

Gottleib just ripped UT on Espn for taking bad shots and not being able to play in the NCAA. Our "offensive efficiency" looks great in the tournament, lol. Fundamentals win games, especially when you are tired in tournament play. One of which is taking good shots.

Coached basketball for a long time. They went over 8 minutes tonight without a single field goal. Think back and it seems like they have 5 or 6 losses a year where the announcers remind us of how long they have went without a field goal. We are kinda like the football team. We have LONG droughts between made field goals. :lolabove:
