Official Global Warming thread (merged)

A bit of a conflation. I disagree with anyone who willfully ignores evidence.

If the scientific method produces data and that data is reported - it's not "science", it's simply science.

Show me the scientific method (which is a well known system of methodology) in climate science.

Elon Musk, leader of Tesla, just quit as Trump advisor because of this stupid decision. CEO of General Electric just tweeted--"global warming is real." Trumpsters are weird extremists. Trump was laughingstock in Europe, by the way. On the campaign trail, Trump supporters cheered wildly when Trump said he would quit the Paris Accord--and of course none of them know the first thing about the Trump Accord. Trump is a con man--Bannon a crackpot.

You know that the Trumpsters are on the defensive when they spend 30 minutes blathering about how they are putting America first when announcing this decision--and offered no specifics about how the deal is bad for America, because it isn't. BS rhetoric.

Was he applying "argument by consensus" as you suggest or was his argument more one of "the company you keep"... Nicaragua is only out of the Paris accord because they didn't think it went far enough... So, it really is just us and the country that uses Sarin gas on their own people.

Not sure, I'll let LG explain, but could be both.

Either way, your argument is fallacious as well. There are a ton of bad countries in the agreement too, including North Korea. Is it a valid argument to be out of the agreement on that basis?

The United States is in a unique position on deals like this because it is a wealthy, modern industrial power but with a much larger population/economy than most other countries with modern, developed economies. It's much easier to convert your infrastructure over to renewables at a faster clip when you have a population of 50 million people. Hence why they are big proponents of agreements like this. France uses a ton of nuclear, which the greenies here don't like, so I suppose widespread conversion to nukes from coal is off the table.

The larger, still-industrializing nations like China and India get benefits and aren't subject to some of the inconvenient things about it, like the United States would be, because they are still developing.

Pruitt just said that US has "clean coal" technology. Lie. There is no such thing. Clean coal technology, if it EVER happens, is decades away--by which point the coal industry will be completely gone.

Let's be honest, he's crapping on Pittsburgh and fighting for the people who line his pockets.

You'll be surprised who's fighting to stay in the Paris Agreement and who's not.

This is the story of his life...Why in the hell people believed he cared about anyone but himself shocks me. He's about increasing the Trump brand and making the right connections as President to benefit him and his family. He has never nor will ever care about America unless it makes him money

Almost all sane people know Trump is an idiot. CEO's of major corporations are disagreeing with Trump. Sane people are jumping off the Trump train in droves.

Who gives a s***?

There are legitimate arguments to be made against Trump, but why do so many of his detractors point first to the fact that the rest of the world and "smart people" don't like him as evidence that he is wrong?

I don't think that's your best angle, so I'm not sure I'd lead with it.

Conservatives have got Orwellian--and it works for red staters. Pruitt talking about U.S. environmental achievements in the past is like David Duke trying to take credit for the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights acts in the 1960s.

Conservatives know that they can throw out the same BS about jobs and workers for the uninformed base when their actions do just the opposite. EVERY nation in the world but Syria, Nicaragua and now USA belong to Paris Accord. This was all campaign rhetoric--nonsense. Name one thing that Trump has done for the American worker--one thing. There is nothing--just the opposite. George Bush supported the Paris Accord, by the way. I got a laugh at Pruitt blathering about American's environmental achievements in the past--a man who is TOTALLY in the pocket of the energy industry--complete toady. USA, by the way, is the world's second biggest carbon emitter in the world. Califorinia has massive commitment to environment and its economy is thriving. All Trump does is throw BS to you gullible conservatives.

It was designed to punish us in favor of 3rd world ****-heaps. Further, it was completely non-binding and countries like China were going to ignore it anyway.

Trump didn't carry Pittsburgh and the mayor has already come out with a statement saying Pittsburgh will remain dedicated to following the Paris agreement. See tweet below.

As the Mayor of Pittsburgh, I can assure you that we will follow the guidelines of the Paris Agreement for our people, our economy & future.

Good for him. Pittsburgh's job market weakens let's see how long he stays in office.

I tried to warn against the laughing stock argument yesterday.

Somebody thought it was not very nice.
