Official Global Warming thread (merged)

You don't need to be a Climate Scientist to understand that the threat is real. I mean, I've never been to the moon but I know it's not made out of cheese.

Nobody is arguing the threat is not real. Its the ignorant fear mongering, money grabbing and the role humans have played in the climate. When it comes to the climate, nothing is settled.

I can see the climate is changing. Doesnt mean humans had anything to do with it.

Like the earth not being flat? The science was there but most were unable or unwilling to understand the science. Same scenario today.

Not even remotely similiar. I don't think you were serious when you typed that...couldn't have been..

Let me put it to you bluntly. If the climate is changing I'm not really worried about it because there isn't shyt we can do about it.

From Columbia University

-----------------------
Aral Sea Disaster

Caused by diversion of the two main rivers feeding the Aral Sea. Done in an attempt by a Soviet '10 Year Plan' to convert piedmont between the Caucasus Mtns and the Aral Sea into a 'breadbasket' and cotton growing region for the USSR.

Results were dessication, heavy metal toxic salts from herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers added to the irrigation streams settling in the deltas and sea bed.
Local climate change and dessertification of 6,000,000 hectares (23,400 sq. mi.) in the region; approximately
the size of West Virgina.

From wiki:

.."there are only 12 million square miles of arable land on earth"...

From the Columbia U. article:

..."The dust was distributed in areas far beyond the region - the dust from the Aral Sea region was found as far as 500km away from the original source (Micklin 2007). Some of the salt reached the intensively irrigated and cultivated soils, which even ruined the soil far away from the Aral Sea region. It was estimated that the average amount of salt removed from the entire dried seabed was about 43 million metric tons between 1960 and 1984 (Glantz 1999)."...

Yep. We can, and already have destroyed vast regions. And we have the science that proves it.

I bet climate change hysterics have totally solar powered homes and walk or ride a bicycle EVERYWHERE. Other wise they are hypocritical enviromurderer tools who are killing the earth and destroying the future of humanity and ruining the world for their children.

I mean its not like they are more concerned with having their opinion liked and accepted than they are of saving the earth....right?

Aint nobody got time for logic like that. We have to be very afraid and spend billons and billions of dollars to try and fix something we literally cannot fix.

Or that humans can change it.
If we don't shift into survival mode soon we all all likely screwed

The corporations are reporting false numbers, have been caught doing it. These numbers are lower than actual. The Chinese government then turns around and takes the cooked numbers and fakes them even more to the world to say, hey look we are lowering our amounts.

while they are quietly doing audits on reports and just now implementing stuff they were supposed to have online during the Olympics. The Chinese government and media fake their news/outlook worse than the US or Russia does.

yes I am being shallow as funk bumping my own post. glad a bigger station is mentioning this.

But Dr Reimann told Counting Carbon: "We still see 10,000-20,000 tonnes coming out of China every year."
"That is something that shouldn't be there.
"There is actually no Chinese inventory for these gases, as they are banned and industry shouldn't be releasing them anymore."
China's approach to reporting its overall output of warming gases to the UN is also subject to constant and significant revisions.
Its last submission ran to about 30 pages - the UK's, by contrast, runs to several hundred.
Back in 2007, China simply refused to accept, in official documents, that it had become the largest emitter of CO2.
"I was working in China in 2007," said Dr Angel Hsu, from Yale University.
"I would include a citation and statistics that made this claim of China's position as the number one emitter - these were just stricken out, and I was told the Chinese government doesn't yet recognise this particular statistic so we are not going to include it."
A report in 2015 suggested one error in China's statistics amounted to 10% of global emissions in 2013.

further from said article.

But Prof Glen Peters, from the Centre for International Climate Research, in Oslo, said: "The core part of Paris [is] the global stock-takes which are going to happen every five years, and after the stock-takes countries are meant to raise their ambition, but if you can't track progress sufficiently, which is the whole point of these stock-takes, you basically can't do anything.
"So, without good data as a basis, Paris essentially collapses. It just becomes a talkfest without much progress."
