Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Oh hey, see it now. Yeah, he was something else. Teamed with Fagen they had a bunch of hits, some will know, some folks don't necessarily associate with them.

Deacon Blues
Rikki Don't Lose That Number
Do It Again
Peg
Hey 19
My Old School
Reeling In The Years
Kid Charlemagne
FM
Josie
Babylon Sisters

Lesser known personal favorites include

Time Out of Mind
Pretzel Logic
Aja
Bhodisatva
Black Cow
Chain Lightning
Royal Scam
Greenflower Street
Caves of Altamira

Many others.

I saw them about 8 or 10 times starting in 2000 when they toured again. Last was in October. Went up to NYC and caught one of their album shows.

I'm not sure folks realize how influential they were on other musicians. Kanye West sampled them recently. Jimmy Page has lauded them and some of the guitar solos in their contemporaneous music, though they had such different styles.

Fagen says he will continue with the modern version of the band. And I did see him just a few weeks ago here in Orlando, with a new band he's doing a few shows with and they played a lot of their stuff.

If you haven't seen either Steely Dan proper, or Fagen solo, and you are a fan of musicianship, tight bands that work hard, and clever lyrics, don't wait.

Theyre also named after a fictional dildo from a William S Burrroughs novel. That alone is justification for their place in history.

I have no words for this except "good grief" Charlie Brown.

A&M has no excuses. They could've won 85-10 if they wanted to. They just quit when the score was 44-10.

Oh it feels good to go off on a rant every once and a while. I feel like a new person.
