Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Anyone remember Daryl Turner and his short NFL career.

Played 4 seasons but had 101 Receptions and 36 TDs. He was scoring a TD in less than every 4th reception. His wikipedia page said he suffered from drug and alcohol abuse.

We all left this guy out of the discussion of 10 best NBA players ever...which was a mistake. 5 titles, 3 time finals MVP, 15 times ALL-NBA, 15 time All star, ....15 time ALL NBA DEFENSIVE team. Nobody matches those in the stats. Ever. He also played backed in the days when a foul was only called in the paint if it drew blood or left a bruise (those are flagrant techs now with 2 shots and posession). His game was never flashy but its impossible to put Malone, Barkley, etc over him...there has never been a more effective or efficient power forward. The numbers don't lie. The Spurs win exactly zero of those 5 rings without him, either. On an all time starting 5....I guess Bird moves to the 3 spot at small forward and Tim plays the 4 spot. His double digit rebounds for 15 seasons, shot blocking, steals inside and 20plus per game on the blocks for 15 seasons make him the best power forward ever. Prove me wrong....

I'm definitely the second type. It really kicked into high gear when faced with an early morning corporate training class and a perky trainer.
I'm a morning person, but a corporate training class with a perky trainer is too much. STFU giggles and let me go back to work.

My kid is doing baseball and the coach is all wrapped around the axle about everyone having their own helmets. "It's hard to borrow one". I don't know how much baseball has changed since I was a kid but at most you could have five helmets in use at any given time. So between two entire teams you should be able to scare up five of them. I never owned one, we just waited for one to come free. Am I missing something?

That is strictly an opinion by the way so I will not pass that off as fact. Magic did have 5 titles before Jordan had one. And if Magic wanted to put up 30 plus points a night he could have. But he didn't need to. And he truly made every other player on the team better and plus he could play anywhere on the court if he wanted to.

I guess Larry Bird must have been smoking crack too huh?

Two things:

1. The fact that he had championships before Jordan is kind of a moot/dumb point because his career was essentially a decade before Jordan's.

2. That interview with Bird was, again, before Jordan's prime.

Chronology doesn't build a good argument when we're talking about skill.
